ModiFace, Samsung partner on AR-powered Galaxy camera

ModiFace is taking yet another huge leap in the world of augmented reality by partnering with Samsung. The Toronto-based company announced the integration of its AR technology into the Samsung Bixby platform, which will allow users to see real-time makeup looks on live video from the Galaxy S9/S9+ devices.

Running at 30 frames per second, the facial makeup simulation technology utilizes precisely mapped shades from top beauty brands, and renders realistic augmented reality effects within Bixby, the company said.

“We are delighted by the partnership with Samsung, and especially by enabling our technology to be directly used within the default camera application within Bixby. This allows billions of users to have immediate access to ModiFace’s industry-leading beauty simulation technology, while at the same time enabling leading beauty brands to reach new customers on an unprecedented scale,” Parham Aarabi, founder and CEO of ModiFace, said.

This partnership will allow for nee brands and features to be integrated into Bixby, enabling looks, colors and styles to be tried on by users and product offerings to be continuously updated and refreshed, the company stated.

Panasonic revamps flat, styling iron tool

Panasonic Consumer Electrics is advancing the science behind hair styling tools, by unveiling a new iron that is designed with patented nanoe technology. The new Panasonic EH-HS99-K flat iron and styling iron delivers salon-quality results at home and leaves hair looking beautiful and healthy, the Newark, N.J.-based company said.

The brand’s new styling tool uses proprietary nanoe technology to draw moisture from the air and create super-fine particles that hold approximately 1,000 times more moisture than a regular iron. Moisture-rich nanoe particles assist in hydrating hair, resulting in a glossier and smoother appearance, the company said.

“Especially in the past few years, in an effort to reduce dry, dull hair, consumers have moved away from using hot styling tools on their hair. With the new nanoe flat iron and styling iron, users can confidently heat-style hair while maintaining hydration,” Destiny Vancans, product manager of beauty at Panasonic Consumer Electronics, said. “Embracing technology and innovation, Panasonic optimized nanoe technology in the development of this salon-quality hair styling tool to provide customers the opportunity to see beautiful results.”

Also featured within the tool is an innovative high-recovery heater and constant temperature control, which allows for even heat distribution over the styling plates to efficiently style tresses and reduce styling time. Each flat iron and styling iron contains 4-inch ceramic plates and five heat settings, which allows users to choose the ideal setting for their hair type.

The new nanoe styling tool is available for purchase on Target’s website for the suggested retail price of $129.99. Distribution is expected to expand to additional beauty specialty stores and mass retailers nationwide later this year.

Bliss revamps, debuts new designs and formulations

Bliss, a skin wellness brand that considers itself a purveyor of happiness, is relaunching its entire line of products. The Los Angeles-based company will debut fresh new designs and 39 innovative formulations at lower price points.

“We did some self-reflection and took a deep look at our products — what we could do better, and how to stay relevant and accessible. We are relaunching with 39 products — a combination of upgraded cult favorites and brand new, on-trend innovations,” CEO Meri Baregamian said. “We’ve always known that the key to unlocking outer beauty is inner joy. So, we’ve listened to our consumers. They love how Bliss makes them feel and the results they get from our products. However, they needed Bliss to be easier to find, and most importantly, easier to afford.”

Bliss’ full product collection is 100% cruelty-free and made without parabens, phthalates, SLS, SLES and other chemicals. The brand’s new launch will include such favorites as the lemon and sage body butter, triple oxygen mask, fab foaming cleanser, and new spa-powered masks. Also new to the lineup will be a patrol clay soufflé mask, mighty marshmallow mask and makeup melt gentle jelly cleanser.

“We know the importance to our consumer of how the product is made and what’s in it. Nearly half of our products are now manufactured using solar power and we are constantly exploring how to build a more sustainable, good-for-you product, leveraging new ways to formulate and produce the highest quality products and packaging in more environmentally conscious ways,” Baregamian said. “Bliss has also adopted a modernized look and feel with more cohesive and streamlined packaging, which will make it easier for the shopper to navigate. Our pipeline is aggressive; we have over 100 amazing, experiential formulations in the works and are adding more every month based on the latest innovations.”

Beginning in March, Bliss products will be available in 2,900 locations across the nation, including Target and Ulta Beauty, with price points ranging from $10 to $30.
