Winn-Dixie revs up Fuelperks! program

TAMPA, Fla. — Winn-Dixie is putting the pedal to the metal for its Fuelperks! rewards program.

The retailer announced that beginning this week, shoppers that use the new Winn-Dixie customer reward card at any of the retailer’s 95 stores in the Tampa/St. Petersburg, Tallahassee and Gainesville, Fla.; and Albany and Columbus, Ga., markets can earn significant fuel discounts at participating Shell stations.

For instance, for every $50 in qualified purchases using the new CRC at Winn-Dixie, guests earn a 5 cents-per-gallon discount on fuel that is redeemable on a single fill-up, up to 20 gallons at any one of more than 300 participating area Shell stations.

“We encourage shoppers to visit their nearest Winn-Dixie location to sign up for their new customer reward card and start saving on gas through our Fuelperks! rewards program today,” Winn-Dixie’s regional VP Dab Lafever said. “We are thrilled to bring this new savings opportunity to our guests here in the Tampa Bay, north central Florida and west central Georgia areas, and look forward to expanding it soon into central Florida, especially with gas prices back on the rise.”

TCC enters global licensing deal with Rovio for Angry Birds franchise

WESTPORT, Conn. — TCC has been granted a global license for retail loyalty promotions to Rovio’s Angry Birds franchise, TCC recently announced.

The multi-year agreement provides TCC with worldwide rights to the Angry Birds franchise in a wide range of distribution channels, including supermarkets and hypermarkets, drug stores, health and beauty chains, newspaper and newspaper kiosks, fuel chains and convenience stores.

The deal was brokered by TCC USA’s VP marketing and licensing Nicole Piper.

"We are thrilled to be partnering with Rovio on Angry Birds, a franchise that has rapidly achieved global penetration with broad demographic appeal that is perfectly suited to TCC’s whole-store approach to loyalty programs," Piper said. "We look forward to tapping into that special appeal with fun, interactive programs that project the same unique and witty humor which spawned Angry Birds’ meteoric growth to become one of the world’s hottest entertainment and media brands."

Online retail sales continue positive trend

RESTON, Va. — Online U.S. retail spending in second quarter 2011 reached $37.5 billion for the quarter, up 14% versus a year ago, ComScore reported Monday. This growth rate represented the seventh consecutive quarter of positive year-over-year growth and third consecutive quarter of double-digit growth rates.

"The second quarter of 2011 saw a continuation of this year’s solid double-digit growth trends in online spending, well ahead of the rate of growth in consumers’ overall spending," ComScore chairman Gian Fulgoni said. "It’s clear that consumers are continuing to shift to the online channel, with almost $1-in-every-$10 of discretionary spending now occurring online. E-commerce’s benefits of convenience and lower prices continue to be the drivers of the shift."

According to ComScore:

  • The top-performing online product categories were consumer electronics (excluding PC peripherals), computer hardware, computer software and event tickets. Each category grew at least 15% versus the year-ago period;

  • The top 25 online retailers accounted for 66.4% of dollars spent online, down from 67.7% a year ago and down from a peak of 69.9% in third quarter 2010, as small and mid-sized retailers continued to regain lost market share; and

  • The 14% growth in the quarter primarily was a function of an increase in the number of buyers (up 16%), with 70% of all Internet users making at least one online purchase in the quarter.
