Walgreens Boots Alliance expands Boots banner to South Korea

DEERFIELD, Ill. – Walgreens Boots Alliance on Monday announced that it has signed an agreement to form a franchise partnership with Emart Company, a member of Shinsegae Group and South Korea’s No. 1 hypermarket retailer. Together, they will create a Boots branded pharmacy-led, health and beauty retail franchise in South Korea.

Under the terms of the agreement, Boots branded stores will be opened in shopping malls, on main streets and within the outbound areas of Shinsegae department stores and Emart hypermarkets. The Boots stores will each feature an independent pharmacy and a range of Boots owned products and ‘exclusive to Boots’ brands as well as leading Korean brands.

“South Korea is considered a leading market for skincare and cosmetics products in Asia today.  We believe there is a significant opportunity to extend the reach of Boots own brands into this market and are thrilled to be doing so with Emart,” stated Ornella Barra, co-COO of Walgreens Boots Alliance. “Emart is the preeminent retailer in South Korea and their strong experience as well as their marketing expertise gives us great confidence in the long-term potential of this partnership.”

“We are delighted to have the opportunity to introduce the Boots brand, and offer pharmacy care as well as acting as a beauty and healthcare destination by also offering a wide range of both Korean and Boots product brands.” said Gab-Soo Lee, CEO Emart.

The first stores are expected to open before the end of the first half of calendar year 2017 and will include Boots highly regarded and exclusive No7 and Soap & Glory products.

CVS Health teams with Boston Red Sox to honor area veterans

WOONSOCKET, R.I. – CVS Health and the Boston Red Sox saluted veterans just days before Independence Day, partnering on bringing veterans from across New England to Fenway Park to participate in the annual CVS Health Baseball Camp.

This event marks the sixth year that CVS Health and the Boston Red Sox have teamed up to host veterans for a CVS Health Baseball Camp.

“It is an honor to host this event each year for our nation’s heroes,” stated Eileen Howard Boone, SVP corporate social responsibility and philanthropy, CVS Health. “We are thrilled to offer this experience at America’s favorite ballpark as a small gesture of thanks for their commitment to serving our country.”

“We truly appreciate the wonderful opportunity and day of fun that CVS Health and the Boston Red Sox have provided to NECHV residents," commented Andrew McCawley, president and CEO of the New England Center and Home for Veterans. "The ‘Dream Day’ would be an unforgettable experience and opportunity of a lifetime for any New England sports fan. For our participating veterans, it helps recognize and say thank you for their service and sacrifices; and more broadly, it honors the service of all veterans in this country.”

Through the CVS Health Baseball Camp, veterans received batting tips from Boston Red Sox hitting coach Chili Davis and assistant hitting coach Victor Rodriguez, took a few swings at the Green Monster and enjoyed lunch in the Red Sox dugout. Participants were also provided exclusive access to the historic ballpark during a VIP tour and received tickets to the evening’s game against the Los Angeles Angels, courtesy of CVS Health, in the CVS Pharmacy family seating section.

The camp was hosted by CVS Health as an extension of the company’s commitment to the nation’s military heroes. Veterans who participated in the CVS Health Baseball Camp are from the New England Center and Home for Veterans – a private, not-for-profit organization dedicated to ending homelessness for the nation’s veterans, and the 1st Lieutenant Derek Hines Soldiers Assistance Fund – a fund that provides financial assistance for Massachusetts soldiers and families who have incurred career-ending and life-altering injuries while on active duty.

Over the years, CVS Health has provided charitable support to a range of veteran- focused initiatives. The company has supported military and veteran-focused organizations, including the National Guard, Fisher House, Operation Military Embrace, Operation Homefront and the USO.

The company has also established a colleague resource group for veterans – called Valor – within CVS Health, and has hosted a series of football skills camps and golf clinics for veterans.

NCPA video series showcases value independents deliver to their communities

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – The National Community Pharmacists Association on Monday released its latest online video illustrating the personal care that people receive at independent community pharmacies, the contributions of community pharmacists to better coordinated health care and how small business pharmacies support their local communities.

The video was produced in conjunction with Live Oak Bank and profiles Theresa Tolle, owner of Bay Street Pharmacy, which serves the Sebastian, Fla. area with the motto, “Where caring people care for you.” The video emphasizes the superlative care provided by community pharmacies and complements a previous video, also produced by Live Oak Bank and NCPA, featuring Danny Cottrell, that highlights the civic, philanthropic and economic contributions of independent community pharmacies.

“Patients often say they choose to rely on independent community pharmacies because they are treated like family and that they want to support their local community and economy,” stated Douglas Hoey, NCPA CEO. “Theresa’s story and the care provided by her pharmacy perfectly illustrate that dynamic. NCPA is proud to represent more than 22,000 independent community pharmacies like Theresa’s," he said. "I also want to give credit to Live Oak Bank. We appreciate their partnership and expertise in taking Theresa’s story and crafting an informative and entertaining video. Live Oak is a vital partner to independent community pharmacies in both their expansion plans and ownership transition.”

Bay Street Pharmacy is the only independent pharmacy in the Sebastian River area of approximately 45,000 people on Florida’s Atlantic coast, NCPA noted. In addition to filling prescriptions and counseling on medication use, the pharmacy offers a home health line of durable medical equipment products and specialty items for people with diabetes. The pharmacy hosts a diabetes club where each month trained experts help educate patients with diabetes about nutrition and exercise.

The video also illustrates how community pharmacists coordinate with other health care providers to close gaps in care and improve outcomes.

“I’m a firm believer that pharmacists are part of a team and that we all have to work as health care professionals with the patient to take really great care of them,” Tolle said.
