Valeant, Biovail become one
MISSISSAUGA, Ontario The merger between Valeant Pharmaceuticals International and Biovail is complete, the two companies said Tuesday.
Shareholders of both companies have approved the merger, worth more than $3 billion, originally announced in June.
The combined company will take Valeant’s name.
Stater Bros. announces tamoxifen giveaway for breast cancer patients
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif, Supermarket chain Stater Bros. is marking National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October by giving away a drug used to treat the disease.
The chain announced Monday that it would provide 30-day supplies of the drug tamoxifen for free to patients with valid prescriptions at all of its 28 stores.
“At some point in their lives, almost everyone has been affected by cancer,” Stater Bros. chairman and CEO Jack Brown. “Stater Bros. Supermarkets believes in doing the right thing for the right reason, and we are so proud to be able to assist in the fight against cancer by offering this medication free of charge to those brave women battling this disease.”
Hi-Tech Pharmacal to market generic Subutex
AMITYVILLE, N.Y. Hi-Tech Pharmacal will market a generic version of a drug used to treat opioid dependence, the company said Monday.
Hi-Tech announced that it would market buprenorphine hydrochloride in the 2-mg and 8-mg strengths through its Midlothian Labs division. The drug is in the form of a tablet placed under the tongue.
The tablets are a generic version of Reckitt Benckiser’s Subutex, which had sales of $75 million during the 12-month period ended in June, according to IMS Health.
