Sparkling Ice teams up with Kevin Durant on new drink, charity drive

BY Gina Acosta

PRESTON, Wash. — The makers of a leading zero calorie beverage are expanding the brand by launching a new flavor, special edition bottle and charity partnership with a big NBA star.

Talking Rain Beverage Company is adding a new flavor, Black Cherry, to its Sparkling Ice drink portfolio. The company is also rolling out the Special Edition Kevin Durant Orange Mango bottle, part of a philanthropic partnership with brand ambassador and 2014 NBA MVP Kevin Durant.

“Our commitment to continue to offer variety, shows our dedication to our consumers. Through our recent social media campaign we gave Sparkling Ice fans the power to select our next flavor,” said Kevin Klock, president and CEO of Talking Rain Beverage Co.

For the first time, Sparkling Ice hosted a consumer-driven social media initiative giving fans the power to choose its next beverage flavor. Using a dedicated hashtag (#blackcherry or #graperaspberry), fans nationwide were invited to vote for their flavor of choice on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

In collaboration with Kevin Durant, Sparkling Ice will donate proceeds from the sales of the Special Edition Orange Mango bottle towards Kevin Durant’s Charity Foundation (KDFC): “BUILD IT AND THEY WILL BALL” Courts Renovation Initiative. The charitable program aims to increase the number of high quality basketball courts accessible to underprivileged youth across the Unites States and internationally. The first three locations benefitting from this collaboration are Oklahoma City, Washington D.C. and Berlin, Germany.

Benzer Pharmacy adds med sync program

BY David Salazar
TAMPA, Fla. — Benzer Pharmacy announced Wednesday that it would be adding to the services it offers patients, introducing a medication synchronization program aimed at increasing patient adherence and streamlining the process of picking up multiple medications.

Benzer Pharmacy said it would offer a check-in with patients a week before their pickup date to adjust for medication changes and remind patients a day before they’re meant to pick up their prescriptions. Benzer’s med sync initiative will use the National Community Pharmacists Association’s Simplify My Meds program.

“We are excited to enroll new patients to this program,” Benzer Pharmacy clinical coordinator Wendy Cavanaugh said. “A new national opinion survey found that 83 percent of patients signed up for med sync services say that they are very helpful in managing their prescription refills.”

The survey, conducted by Langer Research Associates found that Americans aged 40 years and older have an average C+ grade when it comes to adherence. Nonadherence is estimated to cost as much as $290 billion annually.

Walgreens Healthcare Clinic earns AAAHC re-accreditation

BY Michael Johnsen
SKOKIE, Ill. – Walgreens Healthcare Clinic has earned re-accreditation by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care. The renewed accreditation distinguishes Walgreens Healthcare Clinic nationwide as continuing to deliver high-quality, reliable care in an environment that promotes patient safety.

“With consumers, more than ever before, determining how and where they should receive health care and the exponential growth of walk-in retail clinics, the landscape is incredibly competitive,” stated Pat Carroll, divisional VP and chief medical officer for Walgreens Healthcare Clinic. “Renewing our AAAHC accreditation demonstrates that Walgreens Healthcare Clinics are committed to best practices, optimal care and delivering an excellent patient experience.”

AAAHC accreditation reflects an organization’s compliance with nationally-recognized Standards of care and is valid for three years. The AAAHC accreditation process includes an on-site review by expert surveyors who have decades of experience as health care professionals – from physicians and nurses to medical directors and administrators. As part of the process, representatives evaluated Walgreens Healthcare Clinic providers in a clinical setting at a cross-section of locations, interviewed executive leadership and conducted patient surveys. The renewed accreditation of Walgreens Healthcare Clinic is valid until Feb. 8, 2019.

“Walgreens Healthcare Clinic offers a valuable alternative to traditional points of care for millions of Americans and we are proud to once again recognize them as an AAAHC accredited organization,” commented Stephen Martin, Jr., president and CEO of the AAAHC. “By reviewing and validating Walgreens Healthcare Clinic to provide high-quality, walk-in health care, AAAHC is helping to extend accessible, comprehensive care to patients nationwide.”

There are more than 400 Walgreens Healthcare Clinic locations across the U.S., all of which have renewed AAAHC accreditation.
