P&G names new global business development group leader
CINCINNATI — Procter & Gamble has named a new head of its Connect+Develop program, which has brought consumers a series of breakthrough products, including Olay Regenerist.
Laura Becker will lead P&G’s global business development group, responsible for empowering and driving Connect+Develop open innovation work across the company and around the world. A 22-year P&G veteran, who has worked in a range of areas across the company, Becker brings a depth of business and strategic-development expertise to GBD.
Becker succeeds Jeff Weedman who helped lead P&G’s open innovation work for more than 16 years. Jeff Weedman is leaving to serve as a P&G executive on loan, heading a new regional not-for-profit supporting innovation growth and small business start-ups in the region.
Becker joined P&G in 1990 as a graduate from the Wharton School of Business, and since has risen quickly through a number of key roles. She has worked in cost forecasting, financial analysis, new business development, global treasury, portfolio analysis for the Research and Development Organization and held a number of global finance and accounting roles, including most recently as the finance director for Global Feminine Care.
Since its start, Connect+Develop has linked with thousands of external innovators from big businesses to individual entrepreneurs, delivering breakthroughs in packaging, manufacturing, new business models, trademarks and licensing as well as technology and innovations for new products. Kids In Need Foundation, Walgreens partner on school supply drive
DAYTON, Ohio — Kids In Need Foundation has teamed up with Walgreens on the Walgreens Back to School Drive, the companies announced Wednesday. From July 29 through Aug. 18, customers can donate new school supplies and classroom needs at any in-store collection bin.
“Walgreens is committed to helping the communities we serve and this school supply drive is one more meaningful way we can help ease the stress on parents and teachers who may be struggling with making ends meet,” stated John Gremer, Walgreens director of community affairs. “With the help of our stores, employees and customers, we can all work together to help thousands of students have the tools they need to succeed in the classroom.”
Kids In Need Foundation has 27 resource centers across the country. Here, teachers from low-income schools can “shop” for free school supplies for their students and for other classroom supplies and teaching aides. At the end of the national school supply drive, these centers will collect donated supplies from area Walgreens locations.
"More than 14.8 million students in the United States live at or below the poverty line. When families are trying to overcome severe economic reverses, school supplies are not at the top of their necessity lists," said Dave Smith, Kids in Need Foundation executive director. "To make matters worse, most school budgets no longer allocate for basic supplies."
