Samuel Adams introduces ale and lager blend, Sam ’76
Samuel Adams has added a new drink to its line of products, Sam ’76, which marries together the flavors of a lager and ale.
After more than a year of testing and 60 brews, the Boston-based brand said it began formulating the product with two active fermentations — a base lager and base ale. The base beers were then brewed and combined during a final maturation step when both yeasts depend on one another, the company said.
“We’ve brewed a revolutionary beer that brings together the best attributes of lager and ale with a taste and aroma that will completely surprise any craft beer drinker,” Samuel Adams founder and brewer Jim Koch, said. “We wanted to offer drinkers a craft beer they can enjoy during any drinking occasion, from a tailgate to an afternoon with friends, and that’s exactly what Sam ’76 delivers. It took many iterations to get right, but with one sip you’ll understand why this beer is so unique.”
Sam ’76 is a 4.7% ABV and combines American Cascade, Citra, Mosaic and Simcoe hops with notes of citrus. It is currently available for purchase nationwide in six-pack cans for the suggested retail price of $8.99 to $9.99. A pack of 12 retails for $15.99 to $17.99, and 16-oz. single-serve cans can be purchased for $1.99 to $2.49.
Alden’s Organic Ice Cream channels cake, cookies in new offering
Alden’s Organic, a company specializing in the creation of organic ice cream, has announced that it will be relaunching three classic flavors with clean organic versions.
The Eugene, Ore.-based company will be using milk and cream from cows not treated with the artificial growth hormone rBST or antibiotics. Artificial ingredients also will be left out. The flavors being relaunched are:

Each of the new flavors will be available in 1.5-qt. cartons with prices ranging from $6.99 to $7.99, in natural food stores and grocers nationwide beginning February.
Diet Coke revamps look, debuts four flavors
A major revamp is underway for Diet Coke. The brand has unveiled a redesign of its cans and announced the launch of four new flavors, which are to join the product line. The latest additions to the Diet Coke family are Diet Coke Ginger Lime, Diet Coke Feisty Cherry, Diet Coke Twisted Mango and Diet Coke Zesty Blood Orange.
“Diet Coke is one of the most iconic brands loved by millions of fans in North America,” Rafael Acevedo,
In order to connect with a whole new audience, the Atlanta-based company spoke with more than 10,000 people from across the country to get their ideas and inputs on potential flavor extensions, packaging updates and more. With these insights, Diet Coke was able to develop and test more than 30 flavor combinations, which contained tropical, citrus and botanical notes, the company said.
“We know Diet Coke has all kinds of fans — from people who have loved its great taste since it launched in 1982 to millennial men and women who are always looking to try new things. We’re modernizing what has made Diet Coke so special for a new generation. The same unapologetic confidence still comes through and the same great Diet Coke taste people love is here to stay, but we’re making the brand more relatable and more authentic,” Acevedo said.
Diet Coke will continue to be offered in all current existing packaging, and the new flavors will be packaged in a 12-oz. can and sold as either on-the-go singles or packs of eight, which will hit store shelves later in January.
