Safeway promotes Mir Aamir to customer loyalty, digital technologies president

PLEASANTON, Calif. — Safeway has promoted Mir Aamir to lead Safeway’s loyalty programs and oversee digital and mobile efforts related to loyalty.

Aamir will serve as customer loyalty and digital technologies president, reporting to Diane Dietz, EVP and chief marketing officer. Aamir also will continue to be responsible for marketing strategies, shopper analytics and insights, club card strategies and pricing.

“Mir has been instrumental in building Safeway’s loyalty marketing capabilities and programs that focus on sales growth,” said Diane Dietz. “By enlarging his role and consolidating our loyalty building disciplines, we expect to further grow Safeway’s capacity to delight and connect with shoppers in an increasingly digital world.”

Mir joined Safeway in 2005 and has held leadership roles in marketing strategy, financial planning and analysis, shopper insights, targeted marketing and pricing, most recently as SVP marketing strategy and financial planning and analysis.

‘Fiddler on the Roof’ marks 40th anniversary with Blu-ray debut

LOS ANGELES — MGM Home Entertainment is celebrating the 40th anniversary of Academy Award-winning musical, "Fiddler on the Roof," with the film’s Blu-ray debut.

The "Fiddler on the Roof" tells the story of Tevye, a poor but soulful milkman whose love, pride and faith help him face the oppression of turn-of-the-century Czarist Russia. The Blu-ray edition of the film includes audio commentary by director Norman Jewison and star Topol, as well as a deleted song, featurettes and historical background.

"Fiddler on the Roof" will arrive on Blu-ray April 5.

Food Lion to implement more MVP savings center kiosks

SALISBURY, N.C. — Food Lion announced Friday that it would add more of its MVP savings center kiosks to help customers save on their grocery bills.

MVP savings center kiosks, which are part of Food Lion’s MVP customer loyalty card program, were introduced in stores last year. Since their introduction, kiosk coupons have up to five times the redemption rate when compared with coupons delivered via traditional distribution channels, Food Lion said.

Money-saving coupon kiosks also can be found at Bloom and at Harveys.

"In these difficult economic times, Food Lion is committed to providing our customers with the lowest prices on the best brands," said David Palmer, director of customer relationship management and interactive marketing at Food Lion. "We have seen a much higher coupon redemption rate among our MVP customers with the MVP Savings Center kiosks when compared to other traditional channels."
