Rite Aid to announce Obamacare resources at event with HHS secretary

NEW YORK — Rite Aid chairman and CEO John Standley will take part in an event with Department of Health and Human Services secretary Kathleen Sebelius to announce new resources to help customers prepare for Obamacare, according to published reports.

The Hudson, N.J., Reporter reported that Standley and Sebelius would appear at a Rite Aid store in Hoboken, N.J., to announce the changes. Sebelius will then meet with state and local healthcare and community stakeholders in Newark, N.J., to discuss the law, officially known as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

Febreze launches new collection specifically designed to aid in a better night’s sleep

CINCINNATI — Febreze has launched the new Febreze Sleep Serenity collection, the brand’s first line of scents specifically designed for the bedroom to help consumers achieve better sleep, the company stated.

Research by the National Sleep Foundation concluded that 74% of respondents who said they went to sleep quickly every night or almost every night over a two-week period said they felt more relaxed when their bedrooms had a fresh, pleasant scent.

Researchers at Febreze also recognized the important role scent can play in achieving quality rest, and experimented with different fragrances to identify which scents consumers associated with sleep-enriching benefits. They found that lavender is known to decrease the heart rate and blood pressure, resulting in a deep sleep and incorporating jasmine during sleep can increase levels of alertness throughout the next day. Joyful memories and reassuring feelings like the ones evoked from smelling milk and honey induce the production of serotonin, which creates the sensation of well-being and relaxation, the company noted. This research led to the launch of the Febreze Sleep Serenity collection.

Febreze Sleep Serenity is available in three scents and comes in a variety of forms, including a Bedside Diffuser, Bedding Refresher, Bedroom Mist and a Bedroom Diffuser. The collection is available at mass merchandise, drug and grocery retailers nationwide for an MSRP ranging from $3.29 to $5.49.

To help launch the new Sleep Serenity collection, the brand has teamed up with actress Alyssa Milano, star of the ABC TV series, "Mistresses."

“Everyone knows how important sleep is in our lives and to our well-being, but we also need to give our bedtime routine the attention it deserves,” Milano said. “My bedroom environment plays a big part in my sleep experience, so I’m delighted to work with Febreze to introduce the new Sleep Serenity collection. The soothing scents for the bedroom are the perfect way to set the stage for a peaceful night’s rest and help rekindle your relationship with sleep.”

The brand also is launching a consumer sweepstakes with online women’s content destination, DailyCandy, in DailyCandy’s Febreze #MySleepSerenity sweepstakes. Consumers will have the chance to win a year’s supply of Febreze Sleep Serenity and a bedroom makeover when they visit the DailyCandy Pinterest page and design their dream bedroom board including pins of the new Sleep Serenity scents.

Global mobile health market set to hit $20.7 billion by 2018, report finds

DALLAS — The global market for mobile health apps and other products is expected to reach a value of nearly $21 billion in five years, according to a new report.

Market research firm MarketsandMarkets announced Thursday the release of the report, which analyzed the market for mobile health through 2018 in North America, Europe, Asia and elsewhere, forecasting that it would be worth about $20.7 billion by then. The market is currently valued at about $6.3 billion.

Currently, connected devices dominate the market, contributing about 85% of total revenue, with cardiac monitoring and fitness tracking ranked as the most prominent uses of mobile-enabled connected devices. The application market is in an "introductory" phase, the report found, and is highly fragmented due to a number of companies developing software; free apps constitute almost 90% of the download market for healthcare applications. In addition, significant price differences between health and medical apps lowers the adoption rate among healthcare professionals, and though the number of downloads of health apps contributed almost 90% of the healthcare applications market, revenue contribution was not significant due to a low average price range of $1 to $2 per download.

Major driving factors in the market include the growing adoption of smartphones, tablets and PDAs, increasing awareness of chronic disease management and connectivity such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and 3G and 4G networks.
