Remington introduces CODE men’s shaver with pick-up line Web site

BY Antoinette Alexander

MADISON, Wis. Remington is supporting the launch of its new CODE men’s shaver by conducting a nationwide search for the best and worst pick-up lines.

“This contest offers a unique, funny and light-hearted way for young men to open up about a topic that is relevant to their everyday lives … women,” stated Drew Fiorenza, vice president of marketing at Remington. “Young guys are always trying to attract ladies, and while CODE will help them get women’s attention, we want to hear about the other tricks men have for getting the ‘green light.’”

The new electric shaver features a dual-stage cutting system that handles multiple-day growth. Features of the new razor include an adjustable comfort guard to protect sensitive areas, an integrated trimmer and an LED panel that glows.

Now through Sept. 30, guys and gals can log onto <a title="www.GetTheCode.com” href=”http://www.getthecode.com/” />www.GetTheCode.com to submit their best pick-up lines. Consumers can go online and vote for their favorite entries. The top 10 most voted on lines will be selected to win a new Remington CODE shaver and 10 personalized t-shirts featuring their winning pick-up line and a matching illustration.

Pacific Bioscience announces recall of Clarisonic system

BY Adam Kraemer

BELLEVUE, Wash. Pacific Bioscience announced a voluntary recall-exchange of its Clarisonic Skin Care System, based on a danger that the handle can overheat.

Though the incidence rate is about one in 10,000—and no serious injury has been reported—the company is offering free exchanges on any Clarisonics purchased prior to July 2007. Pacific Bioscience advised that though the problem was limited to the device’s internal electronics—and was not an issue of effect on the skin—it could potentially catch fire. The problem is fixed in the new models, and the packaging reflects “advanced engineering.”

The Clarisonic can be found at high-end retailers, such as Sephora, and also from dermatologists. Consumers who wish to find out more can visit <a title="www.clarisonic.com/recall” href=”http://www.clarisonic.com/recall” target=”_blank” />www.clarisonic.com/recall.

Markwins reassures consumers regarding product quality

BY Antoinette Alexander

LOS ANGELES Amid the recent media focus regarding several products originating in China, Markwins International Corp., a manufacturer, and distributor of cosmetics and beauty products, aimed to put consumers’ minds at ease by reasserting the company’s commitment to quality.

Markwins International is the direct manufacturer of cosmetics produced in China. According to the company, it, unlike some of the products receiving recent negative attention, does not sub-contract its production.

“Markwins employs a thorough quality check and quality assurance system, based on certified production standards, that includes use and control of selected raw materials, assignment of qualified personnel and a USA/Europe-based quality-control and quality-assurance team, with on-site review of standards and testing,” the company stated.

Through non-affiliated third-party organizations, the company’s practices are audited and certified to meet the following international standards: Cosmetic Good Manufacturing Practices; International Organization for Standardization; and Occupational Health & Safety Standard.

In addition, Markwins noted that it sources all raw materials used in making its cosmetics exclusively from the United States, European and Japanese suppliers. The company regularly tests in-coming materials, as well as finished goods.

“This, coupled with vigilant control and review of components, and ongoing employee education programs, affirms Markwins’ commitment to ensure the safety and integrity of cosmetic products destined for the consumer,” the company stated.
