Pure Encapsulations launches four specialty supplement formulas to support brain function

BY Michael Johnsen

SUDBURY, Mass. — Pure Encapsulations on Tuesday launched its PureSynapse product line, including SeroPlus, DopaPlus, NeuroPure and Amino Replete, four specialty formulas to support emotional health, memory and behavior that was formulated with James Greenblatt, an author and lecturer who is dedicated to integrative psychiatry.

“As we begin to better understand nutritional deficiencies and toxic environmental chemicals that interfere with brain function, we are better able to provide safe and effective support for mental health,” Greenblatt stated.

SeroPlus is designed to support serotonin levels, lessening occasional stress and maintaining healthy eating behaviors. DopaPlus promotes healthy dopamine levels for daily mental sharpness and memory. NeuroPure provides enhanced support for overall emotional well-being by boosting both serotonin and dopamine levels. And Amino Replete delivers a blend of free-form amino acids required for the synthesis of neurotransmitters and neuropeptides.

Additional products will be introduced to the series in the fall of 2013, the company stated.

Walgreens promotes support of The Jimmy Fund during Boston Red Sox radio broadcast

BY Michael Johnsen

BOSTON — Walgreens district manager Tyler Hough spent the fifth inning with WEEI radio broadcasters Dave O’Brien and Joe Castiglione, who were providing the play-by-play for the Boston Red Sox game vs. the Baltimore Orioles Tuesday evening, to talk about Walgreens’ promotion in support of The Jimmy Fund.

Walgreens’ Boston-area stores raised $80,000 in support of The Jimmy Fund in 2012. For this season, Walgreens is donating $100 for every hit a Sox player caroms off of Fenway Park’s Green Monster. "The quicker the Sox players can hit it off the Green Monster, we’re willing to open up the wallet and give whatever we can," Hough told the broadcasters.

The broadcasters also spoke a moment on the new Walgreens flagship store in downtown Boston, raving over the frozen yogurt selections, and discussed Hough’s tenure of 25 years with the retailer, where he started as a cashier.

Care Pharmacies awarded grant to implement medication synchronization program

BY Michael Johnsen

LINTHICUM, Md. — Care Pharmacies announced on Tuesday that the Pharmacy Quality Alliance has awarded them a grant to support the implementation of a medication synchronization program in Care Pharmacies nationwide using the appointment-based model. Medication synchronization using ABM focuses on aligning patients’ refills of chronic medications to fall upon the same appointment date each month, and connecting with the patient via an outbound call prior to the appointment, the pharmacy operator stated.

Recent studies of medication synchronization using the appointment-based model have shown significant improvements over traditional pharmacy practice in both patient satisfaction and medication adherence.

"PQA is pleased to have a role in the uptake and spread of medication synchronization programs nationwide," PQA executive director Laura Cranston stated. "The synchronization of patients’ refills helps patients stay engaged in their health and has been shown to measurably improve medication adherence in patients with multiple chronic conditions," she added. “We look forward to working directly with CARE Pharmacies to improve patient outcomes.”
