Popchips steps up the flavor

SAN FRANCISCO — Popchips, a popped snack company, earlier this week announced that it’s giving consumers "more to love," as it infuses its snacks with bolder flavors and 15% more chips for the same price.

The company also announced new Tortilla Popchips, which are made with real masa and come in zesty nacho cheese, ranch and chili limon flavors. Popchips stepped up its cheddar offering, which is now cheddar & sour cream. Its popular sour cream & onion got a flavor punch as well.

"At popchips our job is never done," said Popchips CEO, Paul Davis. "As our company grows and the snacking world evolves, we continue to make it our mission to bring great tasting innovation to the snack aisle. We’re excited to give our snackers more to love about popchips with bigger bags and bolder flavors."

Mobile apps from CVS/pharmacy, Walgreens among nominees of 18th Annual Webby Awards

NEW YORK — This year the 18th Annual Webby Awards, an international award honoring excellence on the Internet, featured applications for health and wellness mobile health apps, including CVS/pharmacy, Walgreens and GlaxoSmithKline.

According to a Reuters article, this marked the first year that health and fitness apps were given their own category.

"There is a lot of promise for health and fitness apps, and I think we are really just at the beginning of what we will see and how important some of these experiences will become in our daily lives," David-Michel Davies, executive director of the awards, was quoted as saying in a statement.

This year, 11 mobile health applications, including CVS/pharmacy, Zyrtec AllergyCast and GlaxoSmithKline’s Diabetes HealthMate, were chosen as honorees. Separately, top five nominees were also selected, including Walgreens’ mobile app. The winner will be announced on April 28.

Lay’s Air Pops adds new flavor

PLANO, TX — Lay’s potato chips, a brand from PepsiCo’s Frito-Lay division, earlier this week announced that its Lay’s Air Pops crisps would be entering more markets across the United States. In celebration of the expanded distribution, the company is introducing new Air Pops salt & vinegar crisps.

"Lay’s Air Pops crisps are perfect for consumers who are looking for an alternative to regular potato chips that doesn’t compromise on flavor," said Ram Krishnan, VP marketing of Frito-Lay North America. "By expanding distribution to California and the Pacific Northwest, we’re excited to introduce this new snack option to an even broader audience."

Lay’s Air Pops, also available in original, barbeque and sour cream & onion, can be purchased at grocery stores in select markets. A 3-oz. bag has a suggested retail price of $2.99.
