LAS VEGAS — The Pharmacy of the Year Awards presentation is always a highly anticipated part of the program at McKesson ideaShare, honoring independent pharmacy owners for driving growth and improvements both in their businesses and in the lives of their patients.

This year’s awards will be presented Thursday, June 27, during the McKesson ideaShare Opening General Session. In 2012, the top award was given to Bismarck, N.D.-based Gateway Health Mart Pharmacy, which operates three locations based in Dan’s Supermarket stores. To get a closer look at what sets Gateway apart, watch the special video below featuring Gateway owner Mark Aurit.

“If a little old country boy from North Dakota can do this, so can you,” Aurit noted. Aurit opened the first Gateway store in 1989, and officially joined Health Mart in 2006.

As NACDS turns 80, ‘no time for peaceful slumber,’ says CEO Anderson

BY DSN STAFF

PALM BEACH, Fla. — This is going to be a big year for community pharmacy as the nation counts down to full implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act in 2014. And the National Association of Chain Drug Stores is committed to helping its members navigate a regulatory process for what is still a “very complicated and still uncertain piece of legislation,” NACDS president and CEO Steve Anderson told DSNTV in an exclusive interview in April at Annual Meeting in Palm Beach. “These bills are literally cobbled together by a few congressional staff members, … and it’s generally pieces of legislation that have been out there for quite sometime and all of a sudden finds itself in a rather comprehensive omnibus bill,” Anderson noted.

With a little more than two months to go before the start of the first NACDS Total Store Expo show, DSNTV caught up with the NACDS chief to talk about the biggest challenges facing the industry as it celebrates its 80th anniversary.
