P&G announces new appointments

CINCINNATI Procter & Gamble has announced two organizational changes, including the appointment of Ed Shirley, current group president of P&G North America, to vice chair of Global Beauty & Grooming.

Effective July 1, Shirley will assume his new role, reporting to Susan Arnold, president of Global Business Units. Shirley will continue to be based in Cincinnati.

Steve Bishop, current president of North America Market Operations, will succeed Shirley as president of P&G North America. Bishop will report to Werner Geissler, vice chair of Global Operations. Bishop will also remain in Cincinnati.

Lafley, P&G chairman and chief executive officer. “He has a proven track record of leadership results, He knows how to win with consumers and retail customers in fast-growing, highly complex categories. He knows how to leverage retail partnerships and supply chain leadership to drive top- and bottom-line growth. He’s a great collaborator and partner. And he’ll bring a ‘fresh lens’ to help identify new opportunities and connections for consumer delight and customer business growth.”

Supply, material costs drive up price of beauty products

NEW YORK Amid fears of inflation, customers in the beauty-products aisle are seeing prices increase as the cost of raw materials grows.

Dow Chemical, a major supplier, announced last month that it will increase costs for raw materials by as much as 20 percent. Meanwhile, product manufacturers such as Japan’s Kao and Germany’s Henkel have announced that shelf prices would likely increase. Pantene, Procter & Gamble’s hair-care line, has already increased in price.

Most of the increases come from rising petroleum prices, but natural and organic products have not been immune. For example, French brand Florame has had to deal with supply shortages and is responding by growing some of its own ingredients.

Estee Lauder introduces two eye makeup collections

NEW YORK Estee Lauder has released the Brow Perfecting Duo, which comprises clear styling wax and shaded powder, as well as a hard-angled brush for applying powder and a grooming wand for applying the wax.

Another Estee Lauder product, the Signature Eyeshadow Quads, contains four color ranges, each with two color palettes. The color ranges are pink to berry, mauve to blue, nude to brown and gold to green.

The Signature Eyeshadow Quad is available for $35, and Brow Perfecting Duo is available for $26. Brow Perfecting Duo is part of the Brow Focus collection, which also includes brow-setting gel for $16 and a brow-shaping pencil, advertised on the company’s U.K. site for about $25.
