PepsiCo announces executive changes

PURCHASE, N.Y. — PepsiCo announced that its current president is resigning from his post.

The company said John Compton, a 30-year company veteran, will be leaving PepsiCo to serve as CEO of Pilot Flying J Oil, a chain of truck stops in the United States and Canada. Replacing Compton is PepsiCo Europe CEO Zein Abdalla. Abdalla will be responsible for overseeing PepsiCo’s global category groups (global beverages, global snacks and global nutrition), global operations (IT, global procurement, supply chain and productivity), global marketing services and corporate strategy. Working with the geographic business units, Abdalla’s team will drive innovation and brand building while significantly reducing the overall cost structure of the company.

Replacing Abdalla as PepsiCo Europe CEO is Enderson Guimaraes, who has served as president of PepsiCo’s global nutrition group since 2011. Guimaraes’ replacement will be announced in the coming weeks.

The personnel changes announced are effective immediately. Abdalla will be based in Purchase, N.Y.; Guimaraes will be based in Geneva.

Shire seeks new approval for ADHD drug

PHILADELPHIA — Drug maker Shire is seeking Food and Drug Administration approval for a new usage for a drug used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, the company said Wednesday.

Shire announced that the FDA had accepted its regulatory approval application for Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine dimesylate) capsules for maintenance treatment of ADHD in patients ages 6 to 17 years. There currently are no stimulants approved for maintenance treatment of the condition in that age group, Shire said, and the FDA said it would complete its review by April 2013.

The drug currently is approved for treating ADHD in children, adolescents and adults as part of a total treatment plan and is approved as a maintenance treatment for the condition in adults.

Lunchables extends line with kid-friendly smoothie

MADISON, Wis. — Lunchables has extended its line of lunchtime meals for kids.

New Lunchables with Smoothie includes a Chiquita strawberry banana smoothie that is paired alongside kid favorite foods, such as deep dish pizza with pepperoni, chicken strips and turkey subs, along with a small treat.

"Moms tell us they need wholesome lunchtime options for their kids, but kids want an exciting lunch they look forward to eating," Lunchables director of marketing Joe Fragnito said. "That’s why we created new Lunchables with Smoothie. Filled with kid-favorite foods and a smoothie made with real fruit, these varieties give moms choices they can feel good about and kids are thrilled to have a lunchtime option that’s fun to eat."

New Lunchables with Smoothie offerings are available now in the refrigerated section of grocery stores nationwide with a suggested retail price of $3.79 per pack.
