Pepperidge Farm expands lines to include two new cookie flavors

NORWALK, Conn. Cookie and snack maker Pepperidge Farm has announced it will add two new chocolate flavored cookies to its Chunk and Soft Baked cookie lines.

The newly conjured cookie flavors are named Crispy White and Milk Chocolate Chunk. Both cookie styles come in crispy baked and chewy varieties, featuring either white or milk chocolate pieces.

Pepperidge Farm said the cookie flavors are supposed to remind consumers of fresh home-style baking and can be eaten straight from the bag, or warmed up.

Pepperidge Farm’s adult snacks business director, Brian Immel, described the cookies. “The combination of white and milk chocolate in a chocolate cookie is an unexpected twist on a traditional favorite,” he said. “And with both a crispy and soft baked option, we’re appealing to more consumers that are seeking a truly indulgent experience.”

The new flavors are available at grocery stores, mass retailers and supermarkets across the U.S. They retail at $3.19 per package.

Beech-Nut releases healthier baby foods, beverages

LATHAM, N.Y. Beech-Nut Nutrition Corp. is launching several all-natural baby food products and beverages, each with added health proponents.

Included in the launch are dry cereals, yogurt-blended fruit and vegetable juices and jars of baby food varieties containing ingredients like Alaskan wild salmon, muesli and whole wheat, enhanced with added Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), an omega-3 essential fatty acid. Select items boast health benefits for babies like aid in digestion, mental and visual development and healthy growth support.

Beech-Nut said 17 new baby food products will be introduced at grocery stores and retailers, including DHA Plus Sweet Potatoes and Wild Alaskan Salmon, DHA Plus Tropical Fruit Yogurt Blends with Juice, Good Morning Chiquita Banana Juice with Yogurt and Good Evening Veggie Delight Juice

The juices, jarred foods and cereals are part of the DHA Plus Baby Food and Cereal and Good Morning and Good Evening product lines that were launched last year.

Coca-Cola to stop distributing Arizona tea

ATLANTA Coca-Cola Enterprises has announced its plans to end its distribution of Arizona tea in much of the United States starting early May. CCE said it will shift its focus to Glaceau enhanced waters, acquired by Coca-Cola last year.

CCE announced in late 2006 that it would distribute three varieties of 34-ounce size Arizona tea. This announcement created some tension at Coca-Cola because Arizona teas, made by Hornell Brewing Co. of New York, are competitors to Coca-Cola’s bottled teas, Nestea and Gold Peak.

In keeping with a three-year agreement that CCE recently signed with Coca-Cola to only carry Coca-Cola beverages, CCE announced it will stop distributing Arizona in most U.S. markets. CCE will also now distribute Glaceau.

John Sicher, editor and publisher of Beverage Digest said, “Coke was never happy about CCE carrying Arizona. But CCE was very happy to get Glaceau, and I think this was part of the deal.”
