Odwalla launches line of three Smoothie Refreshers
HALF MOON BAY, Calif. — Odwalla has announced the launch of its Smoothie Refreshers, a new line of 150-calorie smoothies available in such flavors as Mango Lime Twist, Mixed Berry Shuffle and Pear Berry Jive.
Each 12-fl.-oz. bottle provides 100% of the recommended daily value of vitamin C, according to the company, and also is formulated with coconut water.
“Our newest smoothie flavors are so refreshing and delicious, we like to say they’ll make you want to get up and dance,” said Irma Shrivastava, VP marketing for Odwalla. “With 150 calories per 12-fl.-oz. bottle, these innovative new beverages are a nice complement to any meal.”
Odwalla Smoothie Refreshers are made with juices not from concentrate and do not contain any GMOs, according to the company. They are available in the refrigerated section of natural food stores, select supermarkets and specialty outlets nationwide.
Catalina appoints former Folgers CEO, P&G president as new CEO
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Catalina Marketing announced on Monday that its board of directors has tapped Jamie Egasti, former CEO of the Folgers Coffee Co. and president of Procter & Gamble’s global snacks and coffee, to serve as CEO and member of the board.
Egasti succeeds Catalina co-founder George Off, who has served as interim CEO and a member of the board since May 2011.
“Jamie Egasti is an exceptional leader and builder who understands what it takes to create successful organizations,” stated Philip Hammarskjold, Catalina chairman. “Jamie recognizes Catalina’s tremendous ongoing contribution and potential in helping brands, retailers and healthcare providers grow by providing value that matters to consumers. Egasti spent nearly 30 years with P&G, holding a variety of sales, marketing and senior management positions — including general management of the global fabric and home care new business development group, where he led the creation and launch of several new global businesses, including the Febreze and Swiffer brands. He later served as president of P&G’s $3.2 billion snacks and coffee business and became CEO of the Folgers Coffee Co., where he led the spin-off of Folgers from P&G and later its transition to the JM Smucker Co.

Stop & Shop co-sponsors food benefit outreach program
NEW YORK — Supermarket chain Stop & Shop will work with Foodshare to sponsor events at its stores in Hartford, Conn., to help qualifying residents access the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefit.
About 70% of Connecticut residents who qualify for SNAP, formerly known as the food stamp program, actually receive the benefit, Stop & Shop said. This is because of such issues as language barriers, lack of transportation or lack of knowledge of the program.
Foodshare works with End Hunger CT! to increase SNAP participation rates by assisting in the application process and ensuring that benefits are accessed in a timely and efficient manner. Stop & Shop is owned by Netherlands-based supermarket operator Royal Ahold, which also owns the Giant-Landover and Giant-Carlisle chains and the Peapod grocery delivery service.
