NRF names new president
WASHINGTON Matt Shay has been selected to serve as the next president and CEO of the National Retail Federation.
The announcement was made by NRF chairman Terry Lundgren, the chairman, president and CEO of Macy’s. Shay will be formally elected at the June 22 NRF Board meeting.
Shay joins NRF from the International Franchise Association where he served as president and CEO. He succeeds Tracy Mullin, who is retiring after 17 years as NRF’s CEO.
“Matt brings a deep level of knowledge and experience that will be very beneficial to NRF and its members,” said Lundgren. “He has the leadership skills, energy and enthusiasm necessary to guide this organization confidently into the future, and I look forward to working with him on the issues and projects that lie ahead.”
Save-A-Lot opens stores in Georgia, Florida
MINNEAPOLIS A discount grocery chain owned by Supervalu has opened two new stores.
Save-A-Lot opened stores in Hinesville, Ga., and in Jacksonville, Fla. In addition to the newest stores, Save-A-Lot currently operates 29 stores in Georgia and 108 stores in Florida.
“Save-A-Lot is committed to building stores in neighborhoods that want convenience and access to fresh, nutritious food at a great low price,” said Bill Shaner, the company president and CEO. “We are proud to be a member of [the Hinesville and Jacksonville communities] and look forward to serving budget-conscious, value-seeking families in the area.”
‘Avatar’ takes a journey to Blu-ray, DVD
LOS ANGELES The highest grossing film of all time is coming to Blu-ray and DVD on April 22.
Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment announced the release of “Avatar,” a story of a reluctant hero who embarks on a journey of redemption and discovery as he leads a heroic battle to save a civilization. Written and directed by James Cameron and produced with his long-time collaborator Jon Landau, “Avatar” stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Wes Studi and Laz Alonso.
The retail prices for the Blu-ray and DVD discs have yet to be determined.
