IPC names its 2016 Most Valuable Pharmacy award winner

BY David Salazar
SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. — The Independent Pharmacy Cooperative has named its 2016 Most Valuable Pharmacy (MVP). Seminole, Texas-based Oswalt Pharmacy and its owner Gary Dugger were recognized at the IPC Annual Business Meeting last week in Chicago at McKesson ideaShare 2016

“Oswalt Pharmacy, and its owner Gary Dugger, is an extremely deserving choice as IPC’s MVP for 2016,” IPC President and CEO Don Anderson said. “This is a pharmacy that is tremendously active within the cooperative, as well as in its local, state and national organizations, and is dedicated to serving the community of Seminole.”

The MVP award is given by IPC to recognize a pharmacy in the cooperative that is engaged and uses a vast array of its programs and contracts. Before ideaShare 2016, Dugger and his staff were presented the award by IPC director of sales operations Mindy Herrmann at a surprise ceremony.

“We are truly blessed to be named IPC’s Most Valuable Pharmacy for 2016,” Dugger said. “At Oswalt Pharmacy we strive to increase the level of pharmacy practice and grow our list of services to better take care of the people of Seminole. In recent years we’ve successfully implemented synchronization and adherence programs to raise our quality measurements, and I hope to expand our LTC and compounding businesses in the near future. Thanks again for recognizing our efforts IPC!”

Benzer Pharmacy rolls out RxTakeBack kiosks at 2 locations

BY David Salazar
TAMPA, Fla. — Benzer Pharmacy on Tuesday announced a new service that it is offering at two locations. Using PharmaLink’s RxTakeBack program, Benzer has made it possible for patients to dispose of unwanted or expired prescription and OTC drugs, including controlled substances, at one Tampa and one Pompano Beach, Fla. Location. Each store features a kiosk for drug disposal.

“With the RxTakeBack kiosks, we can now mitigate prescription drug abuse, ensure there is zero percent landfill waste, and eliminate groundwater contamination,” Benzer Pharmacy clinical coordinator Wendy Cavanaugh said.

Last year, Benzer introduced its Dispose My Meds prescription drug take-back program in partnership with the National Community Pharmacists Association, but patients could not use it for controlled substances.

“Benzer Pharmacy welcomes everyone in the community to come and talk to our pharmacists about their prescriptions and how to store, use and dispose of them properly,” Cavanaugh said.
