MMF industries launches Med-Master locking Rx storage units
WHEELING, Ill. — MMF Industries is making a foray into prescription drug protection, launching its Med-Master line of locking storage units.
There are three Med-Master units —the Premium unit features a wireless RFID lock, as well as pill sorting tray, illuminated magnifier and dry-erase reminder kit; the Deluxe unit has the same features, but is secured by a three-digit combination lock; and the standard unit features a three-digit combination lock. All three are made of durable steel.
The products are aimed at allowing patients to access their medication while deterring potential misuse as a result of theft. Of the one-in-nine youths who the Partnership for a Drug-Free America says have taken prescription drugs for nonmedical reasons in the last year, 70% said they got the medication from family members without permission.
“We are dedicated to the safety of all individuals who rely on prescription medication, as well as their families,” MMF director of new product development Kevin Schroer said. “Our goal is to provide families with a simple, affordable solution to keep prescribed drugs in a designated spot where they can be secured, organized and accessible only by those they are approved for.”
FDA names new acting director of the Office of Dietary Supplement Programs
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Steven Tave was recently elevated to the role of acting director of the Office of Dietary Supplement Programs at the Food and Drug Administration. Tave takes the place of Robert Durkin, who has been the acting director since May 2015.
“The dietary supplement industry is growing at a rapid rate and it is critical that ODSP utilizes all resources at its disposal to increase enforcement against deliberate criminal activity and protect consumers,” stated Daniel Fabricant, executive director and CEO of NPA. “NPA commends Robert Durkin for his leadership during his time as the acting director.”
The NPA plans to reach out to Tave to request a meeting and to discuss how the newly elevated ODSP plans to increase enforcement of adulterated products masquerading as dietary supplements and punish companies with bad GMPs.
“NPA looks forward to working with Mr. Tave on increasing the visibility and attention for dietary supplement safety and compliance measures,” Fabricant said.
