MinuteClinic earns three consecutive accreditation awards from The Joint Commission

WOONSOCKET, R.I. — MinuteClinic, the walk-in medical clinics inside CVS/pharmacy, has become the first retail clinic provider to achieve three consecutive accreditation awards from The Joint Commission.

MinuteClinic has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval a third time by demonstrating compliance with the commission’s national standards for healthcare quality and safety.

The Joint Commission accreditation is valid for up to a three-year period and applies to approximately 600 MinuteClinic walk-in medical clinics inside select CVS/pharmacy stores in 25 states and the District of Columbia. MinuteClinic was first accredited by the Joint Commission in 2006.

"This accreditation and our continued compliance with The Joint Commission’s rigorous national standards is a testament to the outstanding clinical care delivered by MinuteClinic practitioners during the more than 13 million patient visits at our clinics to date," stated Andrew Sussman, president of MinuteClinic and SVP/associate chief medical officer for CVS Caremark. "With patient satisfaction ratings exceeding 95%, we are proud of our record for delivering the highest level of care while expanding the number of clinics and patient services we offer across the United States."

Since 1975, The Joint Commission has developed standards for outpatient ambulatory care organizations. The standards are developed in consultation with healthcare experts, providers, measurement experts and patients. Nearly 1,900 freestanding ambulatory care organizations maintain Joint Commission accreditation.

"Organizations that strive for accreditation in ambulatory care from The Joint Commission are demonstrating the highest commitment to quality and safety to their patients, staff and their community," stated Michael Kulczycki, executive director of Ambulatory Care Accreditation Program for The Joint Commission. "I commend MinuteClinic for successfully achieving this pinnacle and for its dedication to continually improving patient care."

The Joint Commission conducted unannounced on-site evaluations of MinuteClinic locations across the country during the second quarter of 2012. A team of Joint Commission expert surveyors evaluated MinuteClinic for compliance with standards of care specific to the needs of patients, including infection prevention and control, leadership and medication management.

Mylan launches Indian operations

PITTSBURGH — Generic drug maker Mylan has begun commercial operations in India, focusing on drugs to treat HIV and AIDS, the company said Monday.

The company is launching 18 antiretroviral drugs for HIV/AIDS in India, which has the world’s third-largest population of people with the disease, according to the National AIDS Control Organization.

"Mylan’s mission is to provide the world’s 7 billion people with access to high-quality medicine," Mylan CEO Heather Bresch said. "Through the initial launch in India of a broad and innovative ARV portfolio, we are taking another significant stride towards meeting that goal."

Odwalla expands portfolio with new bars

HALF MOON BAY, Calif. — Odwalla has unveiled four new food bars as part of its 2012 lineup.

The lineup, which includes apple toffee pistachio and chocolate almond coconut chewy nut bars, which are perfect for wholesome indulgence, while orange cranberry and lemon ginger original baked bars are ideal food bars with mornings in mind. All of the bars are good sources of five essential vitamins and minerals, including antioxidant vitamins A, C and E, Odwalla said.

"At Odwalla, we understand today’s on-the-go culture — people are busy and want snack options that are nutritious and taste good," Odwalla VP marketing Irma Shrivastava said. "Our new bars have wholesome ingredients as well as satisfying flavor combinations, so they’re great for those looking for options to help them maintain an active healthy lifestyle."

The new Odwalla bars are available in 1.6-oz. and 2-oz. sizes (for chewy nut bars and baked bars, respectively) at retailers nationwide.
