Minute Maid to parents: You’re doing better than you think

ATLANTA — Minute Maid, a brand from the Coca-Cola Co., on Monday announced the “Doin’ Good” social campaign, which aims to remind parents of the many things they do to make a positive impact on the lives of their children.

The centerpiece of the campaign is a digital film featuring scenes with real parents discussing how they think they’re performing as parents. Each parent expresses feelings of inadequacy — but this changes when they read letters written by their children, who confirm that their parents are actually doing a great job. 

“At its heart, Minute Maid is a family brand,” said Charles Torrey, VP of Minute Maid marketing. “We know parents today face more challenges than ever. Whether it’s the pressure felt from a stranger’s comment or someone’s picture-perfect post in social media, it’s easy for parents to ask themselves, ‘Am I doing good enough’? In true Minute Maid form, we want to shine a light on the positive, and remind parents of all the good things they do that make a big difference. We know that when it comes to making juice or raising a family, when you put good in, you get good out.”

Minute Maid’s campaign will also feature a fully integrated media plan across broadcast, digital and social (with the #doinggood hashtag.) Additionally, the brand will partner with bloggers, Facebook, YouTube and others to help spread awareness.

Honest Tea prepares for summer with new beverage

BETHESDA, Md. — Honest Tea will add a new lemonade variety to its line of Summer Refresher beverages. The brand’s new Watermelon Lemonade will join Original Lemonade, Mango Lemonade, Mint Limeade and Half & Half Lemonade & Tea at Whole Foods Markets beginning May 2015. 
 
“Watermelon is the most consumed melon in the U.S., so we knew it would be the perfect addition to our Summer Refresher line,” said co-founder and TeaEO Seth Goldman. “The notes of ripe watermelon, and even a hint of rind, make our Watermelon Lemonade ideal for any picnic, party or playground.”
 
Honest Tea Summer Refreshers contain 70 calories per 8 fl. oz.-serving. The beverages will be available in 32 fl. oz. glass bottles throughout the summer for $2.49 per bottle.

Former Walgreens leader among those chosen for GMA awards

WASHINGTON — The Grocery Manufacturers Association will honor former ConAgra Foods CEO Gary Rodkin, former Walgreens president and CEO Greg Wasson and chairman of the board of Flowers Foods George Deese with the GMA Hall of Achievement Award in August, the association announced Tuesday.
 
The Hall of Achievement Award, GMA’s highest honor, recognizes the service and contributions of distinguished food, beverage and consumer packaged goods industry leaders. These three honorees will be presented with the award at GMA’s Leadership Forum in August at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colo.
 
“Gary Rodkin, Greg Wasson and George Deese are prime examples of leaders in the consumer package goods industry who are committed to strengthening our industry and who are making a difference in the everyday lives of consumers,” said Pamela Bailey, president and CEO of GMA. ”It will be an honor to present these three individuals with the 2015 Hall of Achievement Award.”
 
Rodkin, who joined ConAgra Foods in 2005, led the company’s portfolio restructuring, organizational rewiring and significant culture change. His work in driving simplicity was featured in the December 2007 "Harvard Business Review." Prior to joining ConAgra, Rodkin held various leadership positions at PepsiCo and its subsidiaries, Tropicana Products and General Mills. He served as chairman of the GMA board of directors from 2011-13, chaired the Government Affairs Committee from 2008-2011, and was instrumental in the launch of the Facts Up Front labeling initiative. Rodkin serves on the board of Food Marketing Institute and Avon Products and is chairman of Boys Town. Rodkin is a member of the Strategic Air Command Consultation Committee, the Omaha Chamber of Commerce and is a Fellow of Executive Education at Harvard Business School.
 
Wasson’s tenure at Walgreens began in 1980 as a pharmacy intern while enrolled at Purdue University’s School of Pharmacy. He rose through the ranks, managing pharmacies, leading operations and serving as COO before being named president and CEO in 2009. During his time as CEO, Wasson is credited with leading Walgreens through a rebranding campaign that revamped the look and feel of its stores as well as enhancing and expanding services. In 2010, Wasson spearheaded the acquisition of New York-based pharmacy chain Duane Reade. And in 2012, he identified the opportunity and put into motion the company’s strategic partnership with Alliance Boots, leading to the full merger of the companies on Dec. 31, 2014. Wasson serves on the board of directors of Verizon Communications, Museum of Science and Industry and World Business Chicago and is a member of The Business Council. Previously, Wasson served on the boards of Alliance Boots, AmerisourceBergen, National Association of Chain Drug Stores, the Retail Industry Leaders Association and the Consumer Goods Forum.
 
Deese joined Flowers in 1964 as a route salesman and was successively promoted to higher levels of responsibility. He was elected president and CEO in 2004, chairman of the board in 2006 and non-executive chairman in 2014. Deese is credited with growing Flowers Foods into the second-largest baking company in the United States through organic growth, market expansion and strategic acquisitions and for helping to develop the Grain Foods Foundation. A GMA member since 2002, Deese served on the GMA board and on its executive and finance committees. He also has served on the boards of the American Bakers Association, Quality Bakers of America, and Southern Bakers Association. Currently, he serves on the Mayo Clinic Florida Leadership Council.
