Meijer making a push into Wisconsin

BY Michael Johnsen

MADISON, Wis. — Meijer is investing $146 million to purchase and remodel an existing Supervalu facility in Pleasant Prairie for a new distribution center, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker announced earlier this week. The 770,000-sq.-ft. facility, which will be located in the LakeView Corporate Park, is expected to serve stores in Wisconsin, Illinois and possibly other states.

Meijer is eligible for up to $5.3 million in tax credits from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation over the next eight years. The actual amount of the credits will be contingent upon the number of jobs created. The announcement comes one week after company president Hank Meijer said the Michigan-based retailer was planning a major push in Wisconsin.

Meijer currently has plans to open stores in Grafton, Oak Creek, Kenosha, Wauwatosa, Sussex and Waukesha over the next two years.

“This is great news for Kenosha County, which has proven that it is a very attractive area for job creators looking to grow and expand here in Wisconsin,” Walker stated. “We’ll continue to do our part to improve the business climate in the state by cutting taxes, streamlining regulations, and investing in worker training, to keep our positive economic growth heading in the right direction.”

Ferring fertility drugs get FDA nod for new labels

BY Ryan Chavis

PARSIPPANY, N.J. — Ferring Pharmaceuticals announced that it received approval from the Food and Drug Administration for new labeling of its fertility products Menopur and Bravelle. The update is a result of the Combine trial, which showed that both Menopur and Bravelle can be safely mixed and administered in a single injection.

"Ferring is excited to provide an IVF treatment option that requires fewer injections," said Nick Hart, Ferring’s business unit head for U.S. Reproductive Health. "We are pleased with the FDA’s response and look forward to offering physicians and patients the ability for customization and a simplified treatment protocol."

Menopur and Bravelle are both prescription medicines containing hormones that stimulate healthy ovaries to make eggs.

Sprite, LeBron James team up for new flavor

BY Ryan Chavis

ATLANTA — Sprite, a beverage from Coca-Cola Co., has created a new flavor with the help of NBA star LeBron James. The limited-edition Sprite 6 Mix combines the traditional taste of Sprite with a splash of cherry and orange flavor. The beverage, as well as the packaging graphics and product name, were co-developed to reflect James’ style and taste preferences.

"LeBron James is the perfect partner to bring our fans new product innovation," said Kimberly Paige, associate VP Sprite brands, Coca-Cola North America. "We’ve enjoyed an amazing relationship with LeBron since he entered the NBA in 2003, and we’re proud to have him contribute to Sprite in a meaningful way that we know will excite Sprite lovers and his fans."

Sprite 6 Mix by LeBron James will appear nationwide beginning mid-March for a limited time, and will be available in 20-oz. bottles and 19.2-oz. cans in convenience, retail and value stores.

“Growing up drinking Sprite, I never imagined I would have my own flavor someday,” James said. “I had a great time working with the Sprite team to turn my favorite flavors into a pretty cool variation of one of my favorite brands. I’m proud of what we created and I’m excited for my fans to try it.”
