Mars promotes seasoned leaders

MCLEAN, Va. — Mars on Friday announced a number of leadership changes, which include the departure of Todd Lachman, current president of the company's global pet care division. 
 
Lachman, who has been with the company eight years, will be leaving at the end of 2014 to relocate his family to San Francisco. Poul Weihrauch has been named as his successor, effective Jan. 1. Weihrauch is currently global president of Mars Food and also has accountability for Mars drinks and European multisales. He has been with Mars for 14 years, working in multiple categories.
 
Mars also announced the following appointments: 
 
  • Fiona Dawon, currently regional president of Chocolate UK and global retail, will step into the role of global president, Mars Food. She began her career with the company in sales in 1988 as a graduate trainee.
  • Andrew Clarke, currently regional president petcare for Latin America, will become Mars new chief customer officer and a member of the Mars leadership team, effective February 15. 
  • Bruce McColl, Mars' CMO is being made a member of the Mars leadership team. Bruce joined Mars in 1992 in Australia as a brand manager. 
"We are thrilled to have such great talent within the organization and proud of the growth that these leaders have demonstrated over the years," said Grant Reid, office of the president, Mars. "These great leaders have an average of more than 19 years of experience in leadership at Mars, and they are a testament to how well our development programs at Mars works."

Jean Coutu Group taps Dufour-Lapointe sisters as ambassadors for private-label beauty line

LONGUEUIL, Quebec — Canada’s Jean Coutu Group has tapped the three Dufour-Lapointe sisters — Maxime, Chloé and Justine — to be the new ambassadors of its Personnelle Cosmetics private-label brand.

The three sisters, known by the public for their athletic performance in freestyle skiing, will be seen on Personnelle Cosmetics collections’ advertisements and promotions.

“This is the first time in our history that we associate our private label to a public figure. The choice of the three sisters as Personnelle Cosmetics’ icons was obvious and easy to make. They represent our main values: family spirit, health and well being,” said François J. Coutu, president and CEO of the Jean Coutu Group.

The women distinguished themselves during the freestyle skiing competitions at the Sotchi Olympic Games last winter. Maxime qualified for the semi-finals and finished 12th, while Chloé won a silver medal and her sister Justine was awarded gold. They also were successful on the World Cup circuit in 2013-14.

The Personnelle Cosmetics brand offers a line of beauty products for eyes, lips, complexion and nails. The next collection, to be unveiled in early November, will push to the forefront the new ambassadors.

Schnucks Pharmacies to offer four breast cancer meds for $9

ST. LOUIS — As part of its new Women’s Wellness initiative, Schnucks Pharmacies has announced that four different oral breast cancer medications (Letrozole, Megestrol, Anastrozole and Tamoxifen) will be available for $9 with a valid prescription.

According to Schnucks VP of pharmacy, Mike Juergensmeyer, Schnucks Pharmacies is taking its generic antibiotic and prenatal programs one step further as the first pharmacy to target the breast cancer category for discount.  

“Our pharmacy buyers worked hard to be able to bring these medications to our customers at the lowest prices possible,” Juergensmeyer stated. “Schnuck pharmacists are critical members of each patient’s healthcare team. Offering significant discounts on four highly-prescribed prescription drugs, allows us to make an even greater difference in the lives of women battling breast cancer.”

Helen Chesnut, executive director of Susan G. Komen, St. Louis, added, “Schnucks has been a valued corporate partner for Komen St. Louis, helping to advance the Komen promise of saving lives and ending breast cancer forever. Every day, Komen St. Louis is focused on meeting the breast health needs of the women and families most at risk and most in need right here in our community. We appreciate Schnucks’ commitment to women’s health.”

Schnucks has partnered with Komen St. Louis for more than 15 years to help raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research and local breast health programs.

Schnucks president and CEO Todd Schnuck said, “The more we speak to our teams about nourishing people’s lives, the more we find ways to make a difference. We all know of women battling breast cancer; they are our wives, sisters, mothers, daughters and friends. It’s important that each of them understands she is not in the fight alone. We are excited about what this new discount program will mean for women’s health.”

Juergensmeyer said that the selected $9 medicines are breast cancer specific (although sometimes used on other cancers) and approved by most insurance plans. The new low price of the drugs will extend the time it takes for the patient to hit the point in their insurance coverage where they pay out of pocket.  

The following are now offered at all Schnucks Pharmacies at the following strengths and counts:  

  • Letrozole 2.5mg – 30ct.,
  • Megestrol 40mg – 60ct.,
  • Anastrozole 1mg – 30ct.,
  • Tamoxifen 10mg – 60ct., and
  • Tamoxifen 20mg – 30ct.

Schnuck stated that of the nearly 15,000 teammates across the St. Louis-based grocer, 49% are women. “Increasing the survival rate and finding a cure takes a team to work along with physicians to help achieve great results for patients. We believe that this new discount program combined with pharmacy and nutrition counseling and infusion therapy makes Schnucks a vital part of every woman’s health team,” he added.

Other money-saving programs at Schnucks Pharmacies include:

  • Free generic oral antibiotics,
  • Free prescription prenatal vitamins,
  • $2 oral diabetes medications, and
  • $4, 30-day and $10, 90-day generic prescriptions.
