Kroger ups Smith’s Food and Drug Stores president to SVP retail divisions
CINCINNATI — Kroger on Tuesday announced the promotion of Mark Tuffin to SVP retail divisions. He succeeds Michael Ellis, who will become Kroger’s president and chief operating officer on Jan. 1.
"Mark is an exceptional leader with an extensive knowledge of the grocery industry," Ellis said. "He has made significant contributions to our company and industry, while always championing our Customer 1st strategy. We look forward to Mark’s leadership in this senior role as we continue to accelerate Kroger’s growth."
Tuffin, 53, has been president of the company’s Smith’s Food and Drug Stores division since 2011. He brings more than 32 years of grocery industry experience to his new role. He held various positions with other supermarket retailers before joining Smith’s Food and Drug Stores in 1996, where he held several key leadership roles including VP merchandising. In 2009, Tuffin was named VP transition for Kroger. In this role, he led Kroger’s efforts to implement significant organizational changes between all areas of the business.
Tuffin and his wife, Tami, will relocate to Cincinnati in 2014.
Archie Manning to keynote at 2014 AWMA Marketplace and Solutions Expo
FAIRFAX, Va. — The American Wholesale Marketers Association on Tuesday announced that NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Archie Manning will be the closing keynote speaker on Feb. 27 at the 2014 AWMA Marketplace & Solutions Expo in Las Vegas.
Manning’s presentation will highlight AWMA’s newly redesigned convention format, which will feature a broad array of educational and networking opportunities in a show that is intended to provide maximum value for attendees and exhibitors alike.
“AWMA is delighted to be able to present Archie Manning to help close our new Marketplace & Solutions Expo,” stated Scott Ramminger, AWMA president abd CEO. “He was an outstanding athlete, has dedicated his life to charitable and community service, and will offer a fascinating inside look into his experiences as a pro football player and dad.”
Manning, an All-American quarterback at the University of Mississippi, was the top draft choice of the New Orleans Saints in 1971. He set Saints passing records, played in two Pro Bowls and was named the National Football Conference’s Most Valuable Player in 1978. He concluded his 15-year career in 1985. His sons, Peyton and Eli, are today star NFL quarterbacks with the Denver Broncos and New York Giants, respectively. Another son, Cooper, is a partner in an investment banking firm in New Orleans.
While in pro football, Archie Manning received the Byron “Whizzer” White Humanitarian Award, the Bart Starr Humanitarian Award, the Spirit of Good Sports Award from the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association, and the U.S. Jaycees named him one of 10 Outstanding Young Americans. He and his wife, Olivia, received the National Pathfinder Award for their work in post-Hurricane Katrina.
Manning currently serves in public relations and consulting capacities for several local, regional and national companies. For 25 years, he has hosted the Archie Manning Cystic Fibrosis benefit golf tournaments in Louisiana and Mississippi.
