BY Michael Johnsen

DENVER — MusclePharm, an expanding sports nutrition company, on Thursday named Jeremy Deluca, the former Bodybuilding.com president, to the posts of co-president and chief marketing officer.

"Jeremy will be an invaluable asset, and we are very excited to have him on the MusclePharm team," MusclePharm CEO Brad Pyatt said. "In my opinion, Jeremy was the biggest free agent this industry has ever seen, and it’s a testament to our company that he signed with MusclePharm. Adding Jeremy will be a huge part of our overall growth strategy as we continue to expand in hopes of dominating the industry."

While at Bodybuilding.com, Deluca helped the site become a popular bodybuilding and fitness online destination. That company now sells more than 12,000 products from nearly 600 brands worldwide.

MusclePharm is one of the top brands on the Bodybuilding.com website, which draws more than 300,000 unique daily visitors, the company stated.

GNC adds PayPal’s Mobile Express Checkout

BY DSN STAFF

PITTSBURGH — General Nutrition Centers has added PayPal’s Mobile Express Checkout to its mobile site.

The integration exclusively was made by mobile and social commerce provider Branding Brand without any involvement from third-party service providers, and makes GNC one of the first to implement this feature on its mobile site.

Upon checkout, customers who choose to use PayPal Mobile Express Checkout log into their PayPal account, confirm payment details and then view the order confirmation on GNC’s mobile site. The process streamlines the purchasing process by eliminating the need to enter lengthy credit card or address information.

"Allowing customers to purchase quickly is an important part of improving the mobile experience, as well as conversion," GNC EVP and chief branding officer Jeffrey Hennion said. "We are excited to give our customers a fast, secure alternative to our standard cart."

Globe All Wellness recalls lots of Slim Xtreme product

BY Michael Johnsen

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — Globe All Wellness on Tuesday recalled all lots of its Slim Xtreme herbal slimming capsule upon learning that the Food and Drug Administration determined the product contains the undeclared drug ingredient sibutramine.

Sibutramine was the active ingredient in the prescription weight-loss drug Meridia, which had been pulled off the U.S. market due to increased risk of cardiovascular events or stroke.

The manufacturer suggested that the products the FDA tested were sold by an unauthorized dealer but was recalling all lots “as a precautionary measure.” The products were sold either through the Internet or on-site at the company’s Hollywood, Fla., headquarters, Globe All Wellness stated.

This recall does not affect the sales and distribution of Globe All Wellness’ other products, such as Slim Xtreme Gold or GelSlim, the company added.
