IRS announces tax on drug makers
WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service has released its guidance on the healthcare-reform law’s tax on drug makers, according to documents posted on the agency’s website.
The tax applies to branded drug companies with total sales of at least $5 million to government health programs, including Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare and programs administered by the defense and veterans affairs departments.
The tax is expected to raise more than $2 billion per year, according to published reports. Drug companies have until Jan. 20 to obtain a fee calculation from the IRS, and until June 2 to offer comments.
Dollar General drives job growth
GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. — Building on its plans to open 625 new stores in fiscal 2011, Dollar General on Monday resolved to create 6,000 new jobs.
In addition to expanding within its 35-state operating area, Dollar General also has targeted such new markets as Connecticut, Nevada and New Hampshire.
“Bringing our store model of convenience and value to more people in more states is an exciting opportunity for us,” stated Rick Dreiling, chairman and CEO. “We believe the new communities and states we are entering will benefit from the new jobs, shopping choices and dedication to community found at Dollar General.“
By expanding its presence in new suburban, rural and metropolitan markets, Dollar General will be bringing more than 6,000 new jobs to local communities. The anticipated jobs follow two years of positive job growth for the company. From 2009 to 2011, the company will have created more than 15,000 new jobs, Dollar General stated.
In addition to 625 new stores, the company plans to remodel or relocate 550 stores.
‘Megamind’ brings on the laughs on Blu-ray, DVD
HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — DreamWorks’ latest animated hit is coming to Blu-ray and DVD in a "mega" way.
"Megamind," which features the voices of Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Jonah Hill and Brad Pitt, provides viewers with a funny twist on a superhero tale. When villain Megamind (Ferrell) defeats Metro Man (Pitt) and takes over Metro City, he finds that his biggest problem is a new villain (Hill) that threatens to bring chaos to the town.
"Megamind" will be available in a double DVD pack and Blu-ray/DVD combo for $19.99 and $24.99, respectively, on Feb. 25. Also included in the packs is an exclusive feature with the original cast, called "Megamind: The Button of Doom," which provides more laughs and action as it follow’s Megamind and his sidekick Minion (played by David Cross) on their first day on the job as protectors of Metro City. Also included in the packs are commentary and other exclusive material.
