Hormel Health Labs brings new healthcare food products to select Walgreens stores

SAVANNAH, Ga. — Diamond Crystal Brands said its Hormel Health Labs brand is introducing its line of healthcare food products to select Walgreens stores.

Hormel Health Labs products cater to customers that deal with such health conditions as dysphagia (for swallowing difficulty), malnutrition, digestion, muscle maintenance and poor appetite. In line with this, Hormel Health Labs also is introducing such items as Hormel Thick and Easy puree meals for dysphagia, which are shelf-stable meals that microwave in 60 seconds.

“More patients are going home early from hospitals and nursing homes creating a strong demand for our products in the at-home market” Diamond Crystal Brands VP marketing John Rowland said. “When patients leave their healthcare facility, the first place they look for health care products is the drug store. Walgreens is the first drug store to take on such an initiative. They are ahead of the curve.”

The products will be carried at 200 Walgreens locations, the company said.

Jones Soda debuts 16-oz. can

SEATTLE — Jones Soda has launched its pure cane soda in 16-oz. cans.

The new product is specifically aimed at the convenience store channel, the company said. The product was unveiled at the National Association of Convenience Stores Show and will hit store shelves later this month.

Jones pure cane soda cans retail for $1.29.

Summer Infant becomes national partner of March of Dimes

WOONSOCKET, R.I. — Summer Infant announced that it has become a national partner of the March of Dimes.

The partnership will be showcased on the packaging of Summer Infant’s SwaddleMe products and marketing outreach platforms, Summer Infant said. Additionally, the company also will be advocate safe sleep practices that support the removal of any loose or dangerous bedding from the crib.

"The fundamental mission of the March of Dimes is to ensure healthy pregnancies and to help all babies reach full term. Summer Infant then takes that cause one step further by providing safe sleeping alternatives for parents," Summer Infant president and CEO Jason Macari said. "It is our hope that the March of Dimes mission for healthy babies can continue long after the baby is brought home. And as a juvenile products manufacturer, providing safe alternatives is only part of what we do. Building awareness and providing information is an integral part of our obligation to our consumers and their children."

Through the Rhode Island chapter of March of Dimes, Summer Infant has raised more than $60,000 since 2006. Summer Infant said that since raising its commitment to the national level, the company will be donating in excess of $200,000 in 2011 and 2012.
