HDMA honors Mutual Drug’s Hal Harrison
ARLINGTON, Va. — Hal Harrison, Mutual Drug Co.’s SVP operations and incoming CEO, was honored by HDMA at the association’s Distribution Management Conference and Expo in San Antonio. Harrison received HDMA’s 2016 Distribution Management Award for Industry Leadership, for which the association’s Industry Relations Council member executives chose him.
“Hal has not only been a longtime supporter of HDMA, but a respected industry leader who has promoted the importance of building partnerships with his supply chain colleagues,” said HDMA President and CEO John M. Gray, “We are pleased to recognize his many contributions to the healthcare distribution industry.”
Harrison — who takes over as CEO of Mutual Drug after current CEO David Moody, Jr.’s retirement on March 31 — has been in the industry for 35 years, starting at AmeriSource, where he eventually became the company’s corporate director of forecast management. He has been at Mutual Drug since 200, where he began as director of purchasing. As SVP operations role, he oversees the company’s finance, warehouse, purchasing and information systems while also serving as VP of Mutual Drug’s Carolina Allied Pharmaceutical Services generic program and buying group.
“Hal always delivers the highest level of service to his customers, and he challenges every person and company he collaborates with to do the same,” said Mike McBride, Upsher-Smith Laboratories’ VP partnerships, who has worked with Harrison on HDMA’s Industry Relations Council and at Mutual Drug. “Hal’s deep knowledge of his customers and the industry, coupled with the integrity that he displays in his business relationships, place him among the leaders deserving this recognition from HDMA.”
Kmart’s Giving Hat campaign raises $16.1 million for St. Jude Children’s Resarch Hospital
HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. – Kmart's Giving Hat campaign this past holiday season contributed to $16.1 million in total donations to St. Jude Children's Resarch Hospital, the company announced Tuesday. The Giving Hat – a stylish winter knit hat created by Kmart to encourage giving to St. Jude – successfully engaged shoppers in new ways, the company noted.
"Our donation to St. Jude would never be possible without the support from our Kmart members, customers and associates across the country," stated Alasdair James, Kmart president and chief member officer. "We also saw firsthand how the introduction of The Giving Hat warmed hearts and heads, and brought us together to help raise funds for St. Jude in the fight against childhood cancer."
"Kmart continues to be a leader for our St. Jude Thanks and Giving campaign and we are grateful for their unwavering commitment to the children of St. Jude," said Marlo Thomas, national outreach director for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. "The incredible support of their customers and associates allows us to keep my father's founding promise that no family ever pays St. Jude for anything – not for treatment, travel, housing or food because we believe all a family should worry about is helping their child live. This year, Kmart, in collaboration with St. Jude, designed and sold The Giving Hat to raise additional funds and awareness for the lifesaving work happening at St. Jude. The hat truly embodied the spirit of the season and campaign."
A total of 20% from the sale of each $5 hat was added to the donation Kmart stores raised over the holiday season for St. Jude. More than 105,000 Giving Hats were sold and hundreds of Kmart shoppers showcased their passion for St. Jude by wearing their Giving Hats and sharing the photos on social media.
Kmart is encouraging members to continue to share photos of themselves and their friends and family wearing The Giving Hat on the St. Jude Shop Your Way page (www.shopyourway.com/stjude). Kmart also welcomes members to post messages on the page about those in their life who may also be fighting a similar illness, which may inspire future designs of the hat.
Since 2006, Kmart has raised more than $92.8 million for St. Jude.
Weis Markets adds pharmacy execs from Target, CVS to team
SUNBURY, Pa. — Weis Markets on Monday announced Crystal Osunde has joined the company as director of pharmacy operations and Ed Sheedy has joined the company as director of category analysis, promotional income and retail strategies.
As director of pharmacy operations, Osunde will oversee the day to day management and operations of the company’s 134 in-store pharmacies. She will report to Rick Seipp, VP pharmacy.
Osunde has more than 10 years of management experience in multi-unit pharmacy operations at Target and CVS.
In his newly created position, Sheedy is responsible for assisting in the formulation of corporate merchandising strategy and business development activities along with the integration of customer-based metrics into merchandising and marketing program development. He reports directly to Kevin Broe, VP center store sales.
Prior to joining the company, Sheedy was director of category management insights at Ahold USA. Earlier in his career, he worked at EYC USA, a company specializing in customer analytics and The Nielsen Company.
