Half of consumers will seek alternative brands at shelf
If the OTC products for which they were looking were not on the shelf, half would switch to another product, with 30% looking for an alternative product and 20% asking the pharmacist for an alternative solution, according to an online survey of more than 900 AccentHealth viewers conducted in September. However, 42% of respondents are observed to be product loyalists and would seek the OTC out at another retailer.

Rite Aid boosts flu vaccine supply to meet increased demand
CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid has obtained 400,000 new seasonal flu shots, which began arriving in stores earlier this week, the retail pharmacy chain said Thursday.
The company said it was delivering the shots to areas of need based on actual or anticipated flu activity.
"This year’s flu season got off to an early and strong start, and according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is more severe than in recent years," Rite Aid EVP pharmacy Robert Thompson said. "Rite Aid pharmacists play an important role in the fight against the flu every year, and that’s especially true in tough seasons like this one. We are committed to helping our customers and communities fight the flu, which is why we’re bringing in additional flu shots this week and encouraging anyone who hasn’t received a flu shot yet to do so as soon as possible, so they can be protected against this year’s flu."
The announcement comes amid recent nationwide reports of "spot shortages" of flu vaccine resulting from unusually high demand. While there are enough vaccines to go around, many retail pharmacies and other vaccination centers are running out of stock, resulting in people having difficulty finding vaccines.
Online retailer touts ‘Made in USA’
PHOENIX — Amid a growing interest nationwide in buying domestically made goods, a new online retailer makes "Made in USA" it’s primary selling point.
Shop & Buy American Made brings together products from U.S. manufacturers, artisans and small businesses, ranging from home decor to clothing and accessories.
"I strongly believe that it’s more important than ever in these economic times to buy products that support American jobs and grow American businesses," founder Bree Peterson said. "Unfortunately, it can be a very time-consuming effort to do so, and it’s nearly impossible to find American-made products at most stores. We launched with the vision of creating a consolidated marketplace for outfitting your family and home with products that are made in the USA or assembled to a significant degree by American workers."
Recent studies back up Peterson’s view. According to a study conducted last summer by Perception Research Services, 3-in-4 Americans indicated they were more likely to buy American goods because it "helps the economy."
