Hair restoration expert Dr. Robert Leonard develops hair care line

CRANSTON, R.I. — Chief surgeon and founder of Leonard Hair Transplant Associates Dr. Robert Leonard, who is also a national spokesman for Rogaine and the hair loss expert for Johnson & Johnson, has announced the launch of Copper Chemist, a hair care product line formulated to harness the regenerative properties of copper peptides, the naturally occurring small protein fragments known to increase hair growth.

“Many of today’s hair care products use harsh detergents that actually damage our hair,” Leonard stated. “Copper Chemist replaces these detergents with naturally occurring extracts, including copper peptides, to promote healthy, strong and radiant hair.”

In addition to copper peptides, other ingredients in Copper Chemist shampoo include the antioxidant green tea, as well as red algae extract. Wheat and silk proteins in Copper Chemist conditioner strengthen hair, while alpha hydroxy acids from natural sugarcane and fruit extracts provide healthy shine and easy manageability.

Peapod rolls out ‘virtual grocery store’ concept

CHICAGO — An online grocery delivery service is launching "virtual grocery stores" at commuter rail stations across the country.

Peapod.com, owned by the U.S. subsidiary of Dutch supermarket operator Royal Ahold, announced it would launch more than 100 of the virtual grocery stores at commuter rail stations in Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Washington, Chicago, New Jersey and Connecticut. Commuters in the markets Peapod serves spend an hour in transit to and from work each day, according to Census data.

The "stores" consist of billboards that allow commuters with iPhones, iPads and Android phones to scan a QR code, download an app and start shopping by scanning bar codes on the products. Peapod has made deals with Barilla, Coca-Cola, Kimberly Clark, Proctor & Gamble and Reckitt Benckiser as part of the new initiative.

The initiative is a larger rollout of virtual grocery stores that Peapod has gradually unveiled at commuter and rapid transit rail stations in places like Chicago and Philadelphia.

"Getting your groceries on the way home from work just got a whole new meaning," Peapod COO Mike Brennan said. "With schedules that are more demanding than ever and people spending 200-plus hours a year in transit, our hope is that consumers will take advantage of our virtual stores and mobile app while they’re on the go and enjoy the time saved when they’re at home."

CVS/pharmacy to serve as sponsor of American Diabetes Month

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The American Diabetes Association announced on Monday that this November’s American Diabetes Month is sponsored by the CVS/pharmacy ExtraCare Advantage for Diabetes savings program, a free offering that provides exclusive savings, prescription management services, recipes and pharmacist tips developed exclusively for those living with the disease, as well as their caregivers.

"CVS/pharmacy is proud to be part of the movement to Stop Diabetes by sponsoring American Diabetes Month," stated Papatya Tankut, VP pharmacy professional services for CVS/pharmacy. "We understand the importance of raising awareness among our customers so that they can better manage their disease. We look forward to working with the American Diabetes Association in helping to further their mission."

Starting on Oct. 1, the association will be asking the public to become part of the movement to stop diabetes by sharing a personal image on the association’s main Facebook page representing what "A Day in the Life of Diabetes" means to them. The image can be a picture of themselves or someone they care about, or otherwise represent how the disease impacts their lives.

To encourage individuals to share photos of A Day in the Life of Diabetes on Facebook, CVS/pharmacy will donate $1 to the American Diabetes Association for every photo/image uploaded, up to $25,000.

Nearly 26 million children and adults in the United States have diabetes. An additional 79 million Americans are at high risk for Type 2 diabetes. Recent estimates projected that as many as 1-out-of-3 American adults will have diabetes in 2050 unless we take steps to stop diabetes.

"American Diabetes Month is a time to communicate the seriousness of diabetes and the importance of diabetes prevention and control," stated Larry Hausner, CEO of American Diabetes Association. "We are excited to be working with CVS/pharmacy to help us further our reach and raise critical awareness about this deadly disease during November."
