Google tests drone delivery in Australia

BY Michael Johnsen

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — Google last week announced that it has been testing a small fleet of drones in Australia in an effort to remove "the friction of moving things around" as part of an initiative called "Project Wing."

"Project Wing aspires to take another big chunk of the remaining friction out of moving things around in the world," noted Astro Teller, captian of Moonshots, Google[x], in a video announcement. Google has been looking into developing the delivery service for two years in Australia. "The next phase is to take the momentum and the enthusiasm that we've built internally and now drive it toward enabling the dream of delivering stuff more quickly," added Dave Vos, lead of Project Wing.

According to reports, the drones fly between a range of approximately 130 feet to 195 feet, and as far as 1 km away from the source site. To date, Google has conducted more than 30 successful deliveries and is now reviewing the program from the company's headquarters for next steps.

L’Oréal Canada names chief communications officer

BY Antoinette Alexander

MONTREAL — L'Oréal Canada has announced the appointment of Nadia Petrolito as chief communications officer.

Petrolito joined L'Oréal Canada in July 2006 as a legal counsel and was, soon after, appointed general counsel, a position she maintains today in addition to her new role as CCO. Furthermore, since 2009, Petrolito is the ethics officer for L'Oréal Canada.

An important mandate of her new role as CCO will be the development of the new Corporate Social Responsibilities Program, which is a key priority for L'Oréal Canada, along with its already existing engagements in terms of diversity and ethics, the company stated.

The L'Oréal Group, on a worldwide level, has recently launched a program called "Sharing Beauty With All", confirming its sustainability commitment for 2020. These commitments are the result of two years of exchanges with various stakeholders throughout the world. L'Oréal is thus committed to improve its practices throughout its value chain, from research to production, while sharing its growth with the communities that surround it. Petrolito's mandate includes the implementation of "Sharing Beauty With All" on a local level within the Canadian CSR program.

Murad to celebrate 25 years with first stand-alone retail boutique

BY Antoinette Alexander

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Murad, the skin care brand founded by Howard Murad, plans to open in October the company’s first official stand-alone retail boutique.

The freestanding store, which will serve as Murad’s global flagship retail location, will be located in Los Angeles. The opening of the 1,500-sq.-ft. store front coincides with the celebration of Murad’s 25th anniversary this year.

In addition to offering the full range of Murad’s products, the store will offer services and activities to provide customers with a personalized, engaging and informative experience at every touchpoint.

“Helping as many people as possible to achieve healthy skin and live happily is one of the goals on which I have based my research, my medical practice and my life. It is also the reason I began making skin care products in the first place,” stated Murad. “The store is meant to be a place to empower people to not only look better through topical care, but to live better through proper nutrition and supplements, and feel better through emotional self-care and stress management . My hope is that our store will serve as a place where our customers can bridge the gap between beauty and health by giving them the tools and inspiration they need to make every day choices that support their overall skin health.”

The flagship location will offer guided skin care applications, consultations, and YouthCam Evaluations using a high-definition camera to measure lines and wrinkles, age spots and sun spots, and inflammation. In addition, an interactive art wall will be featured prominently in the store, and customers will be encouraged to create their own digital works of art and share on social media.

To support the company’s growth plans, Murad recently signed a 12-year lease to relocate the corporate office. Having outgrown its current location, Murad will move to a brand new 45,000-sq.-ft. global headquarters in El Segundo, Calif. The new office will be completed September of this year. Murad’s Flagship Spa will remain in its current location; however, the entire 7,000-sq.-ft. space will be significantly upgraded over the next year, the company stated.
