Gillette Venus encourages young Latinas to reveal their inner ‘goddess’
HOUSTON — Procter & Gamble’s Gillette Venus razor brand is launching a new scholarship program for young Latinas through the Venus Goddess Fund for Education.
Gillette Venus launched the he Venus Goddess Fund for Education in February 2011 in partnership with celebrity spokesperson Jennifer Lopez.
"Houston is a rich, vibrant market and the home to many Latinas who will run households, companies and their own businesses. Research shows Latinas have a higher incidence of enrolling in college, and we want to do what we can to support their goals of attaining a degree," stated Joshua Talge, Venus brand manager.
In partnership with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, Venus will offer $40,000 in scholarships to Houston students who apply and share their experiences on what motivates them to pursue their goals. Applications are available online at Hsf.net/venus through Oct. 28, 2011, and scholarships are open to all Latina students residing in the Houston metro area who are planning to enter college to pursue a two- or four-year degree and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Venus encourages Latinas to "reveal the goddess in you," which means celebrating their confidence, passion, hard work and dedication to their multiple life roles and goals. Maria Marin, an expert in helping women be more confident to pursue life goals and passions, shared this sentiment by empowering Latinas to pursue a college degree: "Latina women are modern goddesses, and through a college degree, any woman can feel ready to start a business, lead an organization, take on managerial roles or feel better prepared to steer their families forward," stated Marin, who is supporting the Venus program and offering tips and motivation for young students wanting to complete a college education.

Omnicare takes PharMerica acquisition bid to stockholders
COVINGTON, Ky. — Pharmaceutical services provider Omnicare is taking its bid to buy PharMerica hostile.
PharMerica, a Louisville, Ky.-based company that distributes drugs to long-term care centers, turned down Omnicare’s offer last month, saying it undervalued the company. Omnicare, a Covington, Ky.-based company that also distributes drugs to long-term care centers and nursing homes, had offered $716 million, or $15 per share, which it said represented a 37.2% premium over PharMerica’s closing stock price on Aug. 22.
"While it remains our strong preference to sit down with PharMerica’s board of directors to negotiate a transaction, their refusal to do so has left us with no alternative but to take our offer directly to PharMerica’s stockholders," Omnicare CEO John Figueroa said.
