Julep introduces new Plush Pout Lip Crayon

BY Antoinette Alexander

SEATTLE — E-commerce beauty brand Julep has unveiled its new Plush Pout Lip Crayon, a full-coverage lip pencil with a moisturizing treatment core in the middle.

“I love our Plush Pout because it’s like a lip treatment rich in color. Reapplying lip color used to feel like a chore, but now it feels like a treat,” said Jane Park, CEO and founder of Julep. "Plush Pout both looks and feels fantastic — and it’s good for you, too, with vitamin E, antioxidants and sunflower oil.”

Julep Maven subscribers got an exclusive first look at the Plush Pout in the September Maven box.

The new Plush Pout Lip Crayon is structured in a retractable, twist-up pencil delivery system so it never needs sharpening. It contains antioxidant-rich oils, sunflower wax and vitamin E to help heal and retain moisture. It is priced at $20 and comes in four colors: Almond Nude, Aurora Pink, Cardinal Red and Magenta Plum.

Every year, Julep brings more than 300 new nail polish, skin care and beauty products to market via its Maven monthly subscription program, on its website, and in stores at Sephora and Nordstrom.

Based in Seattle, Julep has raised $56 million from venture capital firms Andreessen Horowitz, Azure Capital, Madrona Venture Group, Maveron, as well as celebrity backers such as Will Smith and Jay-Z.

Walmart test-drives new Walmart Pickup Grocery concept

BY Michael Johnsen

BENTONVILLE, Ark. – Walmart on Monday morning officially unveiled its Walmart Pickup Grocery pilot with a ribbon-cutting ceremony here, according to local CBS affiliate KFSM-TV 5News. The concept store allows shoppers to order online and pick up their order in as little as two hours without having to leave their car. Shoppers also can schedule a pick-up three weeks in advance.

When the customer arrives for pick-up, they drive up to a touch screen kiosk, enter their last name, and are directed to a pick-up bay where employees meet them with their order.

"We look at this as an opportunity to allow customers to shop how they want to, when they want to," said Jeff Davis, Wal-Mart U.S. EVP and CFO, who discussed the concept during an analyst presenation in June. "Within this depot it will have access to about 10,000 items. Many of those items are driving the majority of the volume in the neighborhood market. So as you can imagine, these are high volume items and it’s not only in grocery and fresh and dry, but also it includes anything in our over-the-counter market. The beautiful thing about this is it’s the same everyday low pricing, so it’s the same pricing they will be able to get if they had gone to a neighborhood market or a Supercenter."
