Erik Wahl keynote to close out Cardinal Health RBC 2016

Cardinal Health RBC will host an eccentric keynote speaker as part of its closing session on Saturday, July 23 — just before attendees head home to implement all of the new tools they gained at this year’s conference in Chicago. Author, speaker, entrepreneur and graffiti artist, Erik Wahl comes to the Windy City with a reputation for getting business leaders to “unthink” everything they’ve ever thought about their customers and patients, recasting their focus to inspire new opportunities and reinvigorate business operations.

After an eight-year career as a partner in a corporate firm, Wahl became frustrated by the lack of innovative thought — and corresponding profits — that he saw in the business sector. So, he set out on a career to challenge companies to change their way of thinking.

Wahl now is a popular corporate keynote speaker who has presented before executives of some of the leading business operators in the country, including AT&T, Disney, London School of Business, Microsoft, FedEx, Exxon Mobil and Ernst & Young. His best-selling business book, “Unthink: Rediscover Your Creative Genius,” has been heralded by Forbes Magazine as the blueprint to actionable creativity and by Fast Company Magazine as provocative with a purpose.

During his RBC presentation, Wahl will literally paint an image on a canvas before the audience that will seamlessly become a metaphor to the core of his message — encouraging attendees toward profitability through innovation and superior levels of performance.

“At what age did that creative river that once did flow so freely, effortlessly, through each and everyone of us; at what age do you think it started to dry up?” Wahl asked the audience in one of his previous presentations. “Pablo Picasso said every child is an artist. The challenge, ultimately, is how to remain an artist once we grow up," he said. “How to retain that childlike passion, that childlike ability to differentiate, to creatively solve challenges and ultimately plug it back into your adult life, your retail business, your connection to consumer. To stop selling and start engaging."

Rethinking, or “unthinking,” the approach to a business could be the creative spark needed to truly connect with the consumer and wholly differentiate a community pharmacy from the competition. According to Wahl, never before have retailers had the kind of blank canvas that could be colored with a positive message and disseminated so quickly before a wide audience.

After all, business is social, Wahl noted in a previous presentation. And the future of the economy is going to be social. Those who are able to build trust through their brand and amplify it through social channels are better equipped to be able to succeed in the future, he said.

Cardinal Health Showcase to offer newest solutions, easy enrollment

Once again, Cardinal Health will offer RBC attendees the opportunity to learn more about the more than 30 solutions available to support their business within the 22,175-sq.-ft. Cardinal Health Showcase booth located on the tradeshow floor.  The showcase is divided into three key areas that support the three Community Pharmacy Advantage pillars offered by Cardinal Health. Attendees can expect to learn more about front-end retail and wellness solutions to support pharmacy expansion and diversified offerings, SOURCESM Generics, such Managed Care offerings as Reimbursement Consulting Services and medication therapy management designed to help pharmacists master CMS Star ratings, and solutions that support business efficiencies and pharmacy ownership.

The showcase will host some of the newest solutions offered by Cardinal Health, including OutcomesMTM, MedSync Advantage and Business Optimization Advantage. Also new this year, attendees ready to enroll will be able to do so electronically with kiosks located throughout the showcase. With multiple navigational identifiers — including overhead signs, side panel signage and icons to denote solutions designed to support CMS Star ratings and caregiver services —  attendees will easily find the right products and solutions for their business needs.
 
The showcase will be surrounded by more than 300 exhibitors and is opened during the show floor hours, which are:

Thursday, July 21 – 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Friday, July 22 – 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Saturday, July 23 – 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

OutcomesMTM to share clinical solutions with RBC 2016 attendees

OutcomesMTM, one of the newest companies of Cardinal Health, will be on hand at Cardinal Health RBC 2016 to share information and answer questions from attendees about its solutions for pharmacists who want to incorporate clinical services into their pharmacies as a way to help patients lead healthy lives.  

OutcomesMTM, which joined Cardinal Health in 2015, will have a dedicated education area on the Cardinal Health RBC 2016 show floor that will host short presentations and in-depth Q&A sessions with attendees to highlight the promise that medication therapy management (MTM) holds for independent pharmacists.

“We know incorporating MTM  into daily workflow at a pharmacy can be a still be a challenge to some pharmacies,” Cynthia Kesteloot, vice president of operations at OutcomesMTM told Drug Store News. “To address that, we’ll share best practices we've gleaned from our network and help pharmacists understand how to make MTM work inside of what they already do.”

Kesteloot said that the tools offered by OutcomesMTM help pharmacies identify MTM-eligible patients, file claims and simplify the process of integrating MTM with pre-existing pharmacy workflow.

OutcomesMTM solutions include its Connect™ Platform, which offers resources for providing CMRs, as well as its Targeted Intervention Program® (TIP). TIPs identify such issues as nonadherence and gaps in care, and alerts pharmacists that the patient might benefit from a clinical offering. Additionally, TIPs integrate with a pared-down version of the Cardinal Health MedSync Advantage™ platform.

“We're really excited to offer medication synchronization as a payable service within our program," Kesteloot said. “A health plan can choose to offer the service via the pharmacy. Through a TIP, we alert pharmacists to patients who manage several medications and would probably benefit from a common fill date. While pharmacists go through the process of syncing medications, they're able to document their claim at the same time.”

OutcomesMTM will also provide Cardinal Health RBC 2016 attendees advice for making the most out of clinical appointments with patients.

“We'll talk about skills, such as how to get a patient to agree to a CMR. In addition, we’ll address how to make the medication review efficient and effective, so the patient comes out of it with a good experience, and the pharmacist is able to identify any drug therapy problems and resolve them before they become a bigger problem down the road,” Kesteloot said.  

MTM allows for pharmacies to improve patient health while compensating them for their time, an added benefit for pharmacists that OutcomesMTM will share at Cardinal Health RBC 2016.

“Retail pharmacists are very well positioned to deliver high quality, cost-effective MTM services,” Kesteloot said. “Pharmacists know their patients and they know medications. With MTM, they can put their clinical skills to use and get paid for it.”
