Energizer completes American Safety Razor acquisition

ST. LOUIS — Just one week after clearing the antitrust hurdle to acquire American Safety Razor, Energizer announced that its acquisition of the company now is complete.

Energizer purchased substantially all of the assets of American Safety Razor for $301 million in cash and the assumption of certain liabilities, the company said.

As previously reported by Drug Store News, Energizer announced in early October that it was the winning bidder for ASR in bankruptcy court proceedings.

Coty said it would acquire Philosophy from global alternative asset manager the Carlyle Group. The acquisition of the Philosophy product line — which is sold in Sephora, Ulta and other premier retailers, and is expected to generate sales of more than $200 million in 2010 — will diversify and enhance Coty’s prestige division.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

"Philosophy is one of the beauty industry’s most prestigious brands and a fantastic addition to the Coty family," said Bernd Beetz, Coty CEO. "This acquisition will allow Coty to strengthen its presence in the skin care category, which is one of our key strategic objectives."

PHOENIX Philosophy is rolling out a commemorative, limited edition of one of its popular moisturizers.

Hope in a Jar, Philosophy’s original formula moisturizer, will be available in a box adorned with sparkling red glitter and features a strong message of hope, the company said.

Philosophy’s limited-edition Hope in a Jar is available for purchase during the holiday season at Philosophy.com, Sephora, Ulta and select department stores in 2-oz., 4-oz. and 8-oz. sizes, for $38, $60 and $105, respectively.
