BY Ryan Chavis

OAKLAND, Calif. — Nestlé has announced that its Edy’s Outshine and Dreyer’s Outshine brands will launch a line of frozen fruit and vegetable bars nationally.

Both Dreyer’s Outshine Fruit and Veggie bars and Edy’s Outshine Fruit and Veggie bars will feature five flavors — Blueberry Medley, Tangerine Carrot, Apple and Greens, Peach Mango Medley and Strawberry Rhubarb — and also will come in the form of a 12-count multi-pack featuring Strawberry Rhubarb, Tangerine Carrot and Blueberry Medley. The bars contain 35 to 60 calories each, with at least 25% vegetables from purees and juices.

"We wanted to add a unique twist to our namesake fruit bars with fruit and vegetable combinations in delicious, complementary flavors," said Kerry Hopkins, Outshine brand manager. "By adding vegetables to our recipes in this new line, we have created distinct flavor profiles that are a tasty way to include vegetables in your diet."

Edy’s Outshine Fruit and Veggie bars and Dreyer’s Outshine Fruit and Veggie bars will be available nationwide beginning February 2014 for $4.39 per box, which includes six 2.5-oz. bars. The multi-pack includes twelve 1.5-oz. bars per box, and is priced at $4.39 per box.

Skinnygirl introduces water enhancers

BY Ryan Chavis

CARMEL, Ind. — Skinnygirl brand last week announced its latest take on low-calorie beverages — its new Skinnygirl Water Enhancers, which will launch in March at food retailers across the United States.

The four flavors — White Cherry, Blueberry Acai, Pineapple Coconut and Fuji Apple — have 5 calories per serving. Each bottle of water enhancer contains 48 ml of flavoring, which is enough to turn about 24 glasses of water into a Skinnygirl beverage.

"I wanted to give women a delicious alternative to just plain water and typical sodas. My new Skinnygirl Water Enhancers are light, refreshing and allow you to flavor to your liking," Bethenny Frankel, creator of the Skinnygirl brand, said.

Heartland Food Products Group, in a partnership with Skinnygirl, will manufacture and distribute the water enhancers across North America.

"Skinnygirl Water Enhancers are a natural fit for us," Ted Gelov, CEO of Heartland, said. "As a pioneer in both innovative water enhancer flavors and low-calorie sweeteners, we share Bethenny’s commitment to balanced living. We are excited to be introducing the first water enhancer products that combine exciting flavor combinations and natural sweeteners for a new kind of low-calorie beverage."
