DOR BioPharma appoints Gregg Lapointe to its board of directors

EWING, N.J. DOR BioPharma, Inc. announced Monday that it has appointed Gregg Lapointe, to its board of directors.

Lapointe is currently CEO of Sigma-Tau Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a company dedicated to the development and commercialization of medicines for patients with rare diseases. Sigma-Tau is DOR’s North American partner for orBec and its largest shareholder.

“We are very pleased to welcome Gregg Lapointe to our board of directors,” said Christopher J. Schaber, PhD, President and CEO of DOR. “Mr. Lapointe brings extensive experience in the areas of global strategic planning and implementation, corporate finance, accounting, and acquisitions. With his strong business and healthcare background, he is well positioned to make significant contributions to the continued growth and success of DOR. We are enthusiastically looking forward to his productive involvement on our board.”

DOR BioPharma is a late-stage biopharmaceutical company developing products to treat life-threatening side effects of cancer treatments and serious gastrointestinal diseases, and vaccines for certain bioterrorism agents.

CV Therapeutics’ board of directors rejects Astellas’ tender offer

PALO ALTO, Calif. The board of directors of CV Therapeutics announced Friday it has rejected Astellas’ tender offer of $16 per share.

CV Therapeutics’ determined that the offer “undervalues the company and is not in the best interests of its stockholders”, according to a release.

The announcement comes once day after Gilead Sciences announced it would acquire CV Therapeutics, making it a wholly owned subsidiary of Gilead. The transaction is valued at approximately $1.4 billion, with a tender offer of $20 per share.

Take Care Health Systems opens new clinic in Phoenix

CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. Take Care Health Systems, which is owned by Walgreens, has opened a new clinic in the Phoenix market, the clinic operator announced on Friday.

With the new opening, the company now has 18 clinics in that market.

Take Care Health Systems operates a total of 339 clinics in 35 markets throughout 19 states.
