Dollar General leadership rings NYSE bell

NEW YORK — In honor of the 75th anniversary of the company’s founding, Dollar General chairman and CEO Rick Dreiling and other senior leaders rang the opening bell Monday morning at the New York Stock Exchange. Joining Dreiling on Wall Street, were COO Todd Vasos; chief merchandising officer David D’Arezzo; CFO David Tehle; EVP global supply chain John Flanigan;  EVP and chief people officer Bob Ravener; EVP store operations Greg Sparks; VP investor relations and public relations Mary Winn Pilkington; SVP/general counsel Rhonda Taylor; senior director investor relations Emma Jo Kauffman; and director corporate events Laura Rutledge.
As the company celebrates 75 years in business and closes in on 12,000 stores, Drug Store News will feature an exclusive, in-depth report profiling Dollar General and its senior leadership in the October 20 issue of DSN.

Birchbox goes from clicks to bricks

NEW YORK — Online beauty subscription company Birchbox recently opened its first brick-and-mortar store in Manhattan.

The store leverages the insights and feedback gathered since the company’s launch in 2010 from its more than 800,000 active subscribers.

Personalization through technology and content is at the core of the seamless in-store shopping experience with touchscreens throughout
the store.

Features include:

  • Curated product assortment featuring 2,000 products from 250 brands;
  • A B.Y.O.B. (Build Your Own Birchbox) section where shoppers can hand pick five sample-size products for $15; and
  • A “Try Bar” where customers can experiment.
