Dollar General invests in Southeast growth with new Georgia DC to open in 2017

BY Michael Johnsen
GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. – Dollar General on Monday announced it purchased land in Jackson, Ga., which sits in both Butts and Spalding counties, to serve as the location for the new distribution center the company plans to construct in the central part of the state. It will be the 15th facility in the retailer’s growing distribution network.

At full capacity, the approximately one million square-foot Dollar General facility in Jackson is expected to service more than 1,000 stores in the southeast. The project represents a capital investment of approximately $85 million.

The company plans to begin construction on the project as early as summer 2016 with an estimated completion scheduled for summer/fall 2017, depending upon the timing of receipt of all required governmental permits and development approvals and the absence of unforeseen circumstances.

“This state-of-the-art distribution center will help support our rapid store growth throughout Georgia and the southeast,” said Todd Vasos, CEO Dollar General. “I want to thank the leadership in Butts and Spalding counties, as well as Georgia Governor Nathan Deal and the Georgia Department of Economic Development for their support and assistance on this project. It is exciting to see our business continuing to grow and create new jobs across the country.”

Dollar General’s 14 other distribution centers are located in Alabama, California, Florida, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin.

Walgreens provides MMR vaccinations across 4 states based on health official recommendations

BY Michael Johnsen
DEERFIELD, Ill. – Walgreens is offering vaccinations that provide protection against measles, mumps and rubella at all of its pharmacies throughout Tennessee, Arkansas, Kentucky and Mississippi as health officials in Tennessee recommend vaccination due to a number of reported measles cases. Vaccinations are available daily at Walgreens pharmacies and Healthcare Clinics with no appointment necessary and may be covered by insurance.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, measles is a highly contagious virus that spreads through the air through coughing or sneezing. People at high risk for severe illness and complications from measles include infants and children under 5 years old and adults age 20 and older. Pregnant women and those with compromised immune systems may also be at risk.

“We support the recommendations of health officials and stress that vaccination is the best protection against measles,” said Gene Hoover, regional healthcare director for Walgreens. “Walgreens pharmacists and Healthcare Clinic nurse practitioners play an important role by providing more convenient access to vaccinations and other preventive services throughout the community.”

Walgreens pharmacists and Healthcare Clinic nurse practitioners can administer MMR vaccine to individuals ages 7 and older in Mississippi and Tennessee; ages 14 and older in Kentucky; and ages 18 and older in Arkansas.
