Regular visits to the doctor, keeping a strict fitness routine and dieting are perceived to be the most important elements in managing and preventing diabetes, according to a recent online survey of more than 500 AccentHealth viewers with diabetes or a family history of diabetes. Fred’s Super Dollar reports slight gains for November
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Fred’s Super Dollar on Wednesday reported a 1% increase in total sales, to $151.5 million, for the four weeks ended Nov. 30. Comparable-store sales for the month were flat versus a decline of 3.6% in the same period last year.
"The environment was as competitive as expected, and the later Thanksgiving holiday had a negative impact on sales," noted Bruce Efird, Fred’s CEO. "As anticipated, our pharmacy department continued to perform well during the month," he said.
"Entering December, our stores are in great shape from a merchandise and operational execution standpoint," Efird added.
During the month, Fred’s opened one store and closed four stores and one Xpress pharmacy location.
EPA highlights Target’s carbon-reduction efforts in PSA program
NEW YORK — The Environmental Protection Agency has recognized Target for its efforts to reduce its carbon emissions, the agency said.
According to the EPA, Target’s technology center engineering team singlehandedly reduced the company’s carbon emissions by 18,000 tons since 2006 and is committed to having 75% of Target buildings certified by the agency’s Energy Star program by 2016.
The EPA is featuring the Minneapolis-based mass merchandise retailer alongside BNY Mellon and RagingWire in a series of public service announcements available on its website, as well as a case study of the company’s efforts.
