Diet Pepsi debuts new ad starring Sofia Vergara

PURCHASE, N.Y. — Diet Pepsi is debuting a new television commercial during the broadcast of the 69th annual Golden Globes awards show on Sunday.

The new campaign, "Nothing Refreshes Like a Diet Pepsi," features "Modern Family" star Sofia Vergara, who uses her wit and charm to dance her way past a cast of suitors to get a can of Diet Pepsi. In addition to the TV spot, the campaign also will be supported by new print, digital and out-of-home ads.

"Our consumers really connect with Sofia Vergara, and they enjoyed last year’s spot with David Beckham so much that we wanted to build on the storyline. The great lengths our star will go to get a refreshing Diet Pepsi brings our message to light in a fun, uplifting way," Pepsi Beverages senior director Amy Wirtanen said.

Deep Foods gains halal certification for frozen chicken, lamb dishes

UNION, N.J. — A maker of frozen Indian cuisine has gained halal certification for all of its chicken and lamb dishes through the Islamic Society of North America.

Deep Foods said it obtained halal certification to reach a wider range of consumers. The certification will be called out on the packaging of its chicken and lamb dishes, Deep Foods said.

"Deep Foods is a company that respects the preferences of all consumers, including those that follow a halal, vegetarian, vegan and/or gluten-free diet," Deep Foods VP marketing Mike Ryan said. "We mark each product so that the consumer has all information and control over which Indian food products they buy, including our ISNA halal and American Vegetarian Association dishes."

Nielsen acquires Perishables Group

NEW YORK — Nielsen is looking to boost its position as a leader in total store reporting and analytics by acquiring a provider of customized information for the fresh food business environment.

Nielsen said it has acquired all assets of Chicago-based Perishables Group — a company founded in 2000 — including data, advanced analytic IP tools and ongoing client work, which will be integrated Nielsen’s retail measurement operation and provide a larger spectrum of insights across total store. Perishables Group’s employees will join Nielsen’s North America Consumer Analytics team.

"Nielsen acquired the Perishables Group to drive increased value for our clients," Nielsen Consumer North America president and CEO John Lewis said. "With Perishables Group now fully part of the Nielsen organization, we can accelerate our work to integrate total-store information, thus providing a holistic picture of wall-to-wall activity within the store. This complete view across all fresh departments — produce, deli, meat, seafood and bakery — provides a distinct advantage for all our clients, including retailers, packaged goods manufacturers and fresh food suppliers."
