Coupons.com taps Safeway executive to be CFO, COO

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — Coupons.com on Thursday announced the appointment of former Safeway executive Mir Aamir as the company’s CFO and COO. He will oversee all financial and accounting functions.  

The roles are presently managed by Richard Hornstein, the company’s CFO and general counsel. Hornstein will continue in the role of general counsel and chief legal officer, a role he has held for the past two-and-a-half years. Aamir, in addition to the finance functions, will also oversee the company’s operations and the international business.

“For the past 15 years, Coupons.com has worked to bring a digital consumer experience to high-volume retail and CPG industries. Mir also has been a pioneer in this space and is a recognized and well-respected thought leader who brings extensive, highly relevant experience to our business,” stated Steven Boal, Coupons.com CEO. “Not only does Mir have large-scale financial experience, he also has deep expertise in both CPG and high-volume retail. As a thought leader in direct-to-consumer and retail trade promotions, Mir has spent almost two decades understanding consumer shopping behavior and how to effectively engage with shoppers, whether they are at home, on the go or in the store. Mir’s unique combination of experiences will serve our company well.”

Aamir joins Coupons.com from Safeway, where he was president of customer loyalty and digital technologies. Aamir helped found and lead the Just for U platform, Safeway’s digital and mobile platform for loyalty and targeted marketing, reaching more than 6 million registered shoppers to date. Previously at Safeway, he was SVP marketing strategy, financial planning & analysis, pricing and shopper card. Before that, he held the position of group VP, FP&A and strategy, for all of Safeway’s U.S. business units with annual sales exceeding $33 billion.

Prior to Safeway, Aamir was at A.T. Kearney, where he was officer and VP strategy for the management consulting firm’s consumer and retail practice. His clients included top grocery retailers and CPG manufacturers. Prior, Aamir held various positions at Procter & Gamble and Citicorp in Asia.

Aamir holds an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a B.B.A/M.B.A. in Finance from the Institute of Business at the University of Karachi.

New product allows storage of smartphones, cards, cash, keys in one place

DEERFIELD, Ill. — A new product is designed to allow people to carry their smartphone, money, photo ID, credit card and key in one container, and the company is giving thousands of them away for free as part of a limited-time offer.

Grab N Go Band said it would give one free band for everyone who signs up at its website, and the final number of giveaways is limited only by the number of backers of the associated Kickstarter campaign.

"I’m confident that we will surpass our funding goal, but I still want to increase awareness of this one-of-a-kind minimalist product," creator Danny Wilk said. "Every day, I see people fumbling with a wallet in one hand and a smartphone in the other. I asked myself, how much stuff does a person really need when going to the gym, walking the dog or stopping by the store? That got me thinking about how to improve the concept of the minimalist wallet."
