Clearasil using Facebook to find consumer brand ambassadors
PARSIPPANY, N.J. — Reckitt Benckiser’s Clearasil skin care brand has launched a Facebook search for consumer brand ambassadors.
The campaign, geared toward the young adult demographic who are influencers and trend-setters among their peer group, aims to find three “Clearasil All Access Agents.” These “Agents” will sample new product launches before they are on the shelf, attend exclusive events on behalf of the brand, and share their experiences over the next year through weekly posts and updates on Clearasil digital platforms, including Facebook and YouTube. In addition, the brand is awarding $5,000.
To enter, consumers will submit a form that asks questions about consumers’ interests and what type of a role social media plays in their lives. The contest will be housed on a dedicated Facebook tab within the brand page and winners will be announced Nov. 30.
States uniting against ESI-Medco merger
WASHINGTON — More than 25 states have formed a group concerned about the potential merger of Express Scripts and Medco Health Solutions, Reuters Health reported last week.
James Donahue of the Pennsylvania state attorney general’s office declined to name the specific states, though Connecticut and Iowa are among those concerned, according to officials from those states, Reuters reported.
While the states have no direct influence on the review being conducted by the Federal Trade Commission, the collection of states will "likely add pressure on the FTC to give tough scrutiny to the merger, and could hand the agency evidence that would potentially serve as ammunition to challenge it."
The states also could challenge the deal on their own, Reuters noted.

NCPA names U.S. Compounding CEO independent pharmacist of the year
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The National Community Pharmacists Association on Sunday named Eddie Glover, president and CEO of U.S. Compounding in Conway, Ark., the recipient of the 2011 Willard B. Simmons Independent Pharmacist of the Year award.
“Eddie’s outstanding leadership and services make him a truly deserving recipient of the 2011 Willard B. Simmons Independent Pharmacist of the Year award,” stated Robert Greenwood, NCPA president. “Eddie has always been ahead of the curve in the compounding of specially tailored drugs, a niche service that gains more prominence each year as independent community pharmacies distinguish themselves from their competitors by finding additional ways to fulfill their patients’ health needs.”
The Independent Pharmacist of the Year award recognizes an independent pharmacist for exemplary leadership and commitment to independent pharmacy and to his or her community. The award is named in honor of Willard Simmons, a former executive secretary of NCPA (then the National Association of Retail Druggists) and long-time NCPA Foundation trustee.
