Carex Health Brands merges with DME channel supplier Roscoe Medical

STRONGSVILLE, Ohio — Roscoe Medical and Carex Health Brands on Thursday announced the merger of the two companies. Terms of the merger are not being disclosed.

“This transaction presents an opportunity to offer even greater combined value to our customers by offering Carex Health Brand products to the DME dealer channel, where many dealers are looking to increase their retail (cash) business,” said Paul Guth, president and CEO of Roscoe Medical. “It aligns our goal of providing innovative solutions to our dealers as we continue to invest in the industry.”

“The Roscoe brand has long been admired for many of the same values as Carex including quality, value and integrity,” said Matt McElduff, president of Carex Health Brands. “We are very excited by the opportunities this merger creates, bringing Carex into many new product categories we haven’t been in before. In addition, there is very little channel or product overlap between Roscoe and Carex.”

Key strategic benefits of the merger identified by the companies include an expanded product offerings and larger market distribution footprint. The diversified products and larger market distribution footprint of the combined organization will strengthen the company’s ability to serve home healthcare customers across North America. And the anticipated pooling of the combined organization’s research and technology will help to streamline product development and better address the evolving needs of a continual growing consumer demographic.

The merger also will allow the combined company to pursue growth opportunities while continually investing in the HME industry.

Paul Guth will serve as CEO of the new company and president of Roscoe Medical. Matt McElduff will continue to be president of Carex Health Brands. The combined company’s management team will remain in place.

Wahl Therapeutic Massagers survey finds that 92% of travelers experience pain

STERLING, Ill. — A study from Wahl Therapeutic Massagers released Thursday found that physical aches and soreness are a real threat to travelers of all ages — 92% of adults 18 years of age and older experience physical pain while traveling.

The study covered various modes of transportation, including airplane, train, bus and personal vehicle. Across all four modes of transport, the three types of pain travelers experience most often are back (54%), leg (39%) and neck (21%). As for the most painful modes of traveling, 4-in-5 people cite air and bus travel as the most pain inducing.

"Traveling long distances can put a lot of stress on muscles and joints, especially when cramped or left inactive for long periods of time," said Jenny McLaughlin, product manager for Wahl Therapeutic Massagers. "The good news for travelers is that simple techniques — such as massage therapy before and after the trip — can help alleviate muscle tension by increasing blood flow."

Hosts named for the 21st annual EIF Revlon Run/Walk for Women

LOS ANGELES — Revlon, the Entertainment Industry Foundation and Lilly Tartikoff have announced the 21st annual EIF Revlon Run/Walk for Women. Revlon brand ambassador Emma Stone will host the 2014 event in New York on May 3, and Revlon brand ambassador Halle Berry, along with Christina Applegate, will host in Los Angeles on May 10.

Stone will be returning for her third year to host the New York Run/Walk, while Berry is celebrating her eighth year participating in the EIF Revlon Run/Walk and hosting the Los Angeles event with Applegate. The Run/Walk was launched in Los Angeles in 1994 through the combined efforts of Lilly Tartikoff; Ronald O. Perelman, chairman of Revlon; and EIF, with a second event in New York City added shortly after. To date, nearly one million people have participated in the EIF Revlon Run/Walk for Women, and the Run/Walks have distributed more than $70 million to support women’s cancer research, counseling and outreach programs.

Like her co-host, Applegate has participated in the Run/Walk several times. As a breast cancer survivor, she is passionate about inspiring other women to take control of their health and providing critical resources to women contending with or at risk of breast cancer.

"Revlon has been involved with the EIF Revlon Run/Walk since its inception and every year, we are reminded of how important it is to keep up the fight against women’s cancers until we find a cure," Perelman, co-founder of the Run/Walk and co-founder of the Revlon/UCLA Women’s Cancer Research Program, said. "I would like to thank all of the volunteers and city officials who help make our event possible each year."
