Burt’s Bees gets energy-saving conveyor belt system
RALEIGH, N.C. Burt’s Bees, a maker of natural personal care products, has tapped Tompkins Associates to implement a new sensor-activated Motorized Drive Roller Conveyor to improve efficiency and save energy.
According to Tompkins, the company has increased efficiency and elevated its energy savings. Energy usage is expected to decrease by as much as 40 percent to 60 percent.
“The environment is a priority for Burt’s Bees, and as we continue to grow, we are ensuring that we remain true to our commitment to the greater good in all we do,” stated Tony Quartararo, executive vice president of supply chain at Burt’s Bees. “With our new, more efficient operations and equipment, we are able to reduce the amount of energy we use and reduce costs at the same time. It’s a win/win situation.”
The company leased a 144,000-square-foot distribution center in Morrisville, N.C., and implemented new material handling equipment. The Tompkins Warehouse Control System, which includes a system backup and event logging, was also installed for better new material handling equipment control.
Flowery Beauty Products introduces nail-strengthening pen, pumice stone
LOS ANGELES Flowery Beauty Products has introduced two new products for the ultimate manicure/pedicure—Flowery Nail Strengthening Pen and Natural Pumice Stone with Tea Tree Oil.
The new Nail Strengthening Pen is an intensive treatment for weak, brittle and damaged nails. The formula contains keratin to improve firmness and avoid drying out, while glycerin and D-panthenol protect nails against moisture loss.
The Natural Pumice Stone with Tea Tree Oil is an all-natural pumice stone made from volcanic pumice to buff away rough skin and calluses on hands and feet. The Tea Tree Oil is designed to soothe newly buffed skin while smoothing the skin.
Kotchka to resign from P&G
CINCINNATI Procter & Gamble announced on Wednesday that Claudia Kotchka, vice president of design innovation and strategy, will retire effective March 31, 2009 after more than 31 years of service.
Until that time, effective Aug. 1, 2008, Kotchka will serve as vice president on special assignment.
“Under Claudia’s leadership, in only seven years, we’ve built world-class design capacity at P&G,” stated A.G. Lafley, chairman and chief executive officer. “She has helped integrate design and design thinking into how we innovate and how we operate as a company. Her passion for the power of design has strengthened our brands and our business.”
Also on Aug. 1, Philip Duncan, currently president of the Europe and Middle East region for Landor Associates, will be appointed global design officer. Duncan will report to Lafley.
