Bitsy’s Brainfood adds crackers to its healthy snacks lineup

BY Gina Acosta

NEW YORK — A company run by moms who are aiming to redefine "healthy" packaged organic food for kids is launching a new line of crackers.

Bitsy's Brainfood has announced the addition of Smart Crackers to its lineup of healthy and educational snacks.

Made with organic vegetables, Smart Crackers come in three flavors: Cheddar Chia Veggie, Sweet Potato Cinna-Graham and Maple Carrot Crisp. Bitsy's Brainfood Smart Crackers are currently available exclusively at Target as part of its "Made to Matter" program, which features purpose-driven brands to make better-for-you product innovation accessible for all.

"Bitsy's asks the question 'Why should junk food have all the fun?' " said Bitsy's Brainfood co-founder, Maggie Jones Patton. "Making healthy food both delicious and playful is the best way to help kids eat smart. And moms love that, with Bitsy's Brainfood, snack time can also be learning time."

Smart Crackers offer Vitamins A, B6, B12, D and folic acid, as well as calcium and iron. Each of the flavors comes in puzzle shapes called tangrams that kids can use to make hundreds of designs. As with all Bitsy's Brainfood products, healthy ingredients feature prominently in Smart Cracker flavor names so the "good stuff" isn't hidden from the kids who enjoy them.

Bitsy's Brainfood products are Non-GMO and Certified USDA Organic. In addition, they are made in a peanut-free and tree nut-free facility in the USA, making them an allergy-friendly, shareable snack for school time, lunchtime, playtime or anytime at all.
Target has recognized Bitsy's commitment to clean labeling, attention to allergens and dietary restrictions, and lowering sugar content by selecting them as one of this year's Made to Matter brands, a program that was launched in 2014.

Smart Crackers join the lineup of other veggie-powered Bitsy's Brainfood products, including Smart Cookies – in three-dimensional alphabet shapes – and the first organic, gluten-free vegetable cereals for kids: Fruity Number Crunch and Berry Blast. Bitsy's Brainfood product packaging and online resources offer games and activities, along with a group of colorful characters and product shapes that encourage play and learning.

The rest of the Bitsy's Brainfood products are available at major retailers nationwide.

Made in Nature unleashing new organic snack line

BY Gina Acosta

BOULDER, Colo. — A leader in healthy, organic snacking is launching a lineup of Organic Supersnacks in new bold packaging.

The Made in Nature brand is launching a new line of Figgy Pops, Toasted Coconut Chips, Dried Fruit Fusions, Fruit and Nut Fusions and Kale Chips.

"We are a snacking nation. Over half of all U.S. consumers snack more than three times a day to stay nourished. Our mission is to satisfy that hunger with delicious, ready-to-eat snacks made from real fruit and real vegetables, without compromising flavor or fun," said Doug Brent, CEO of Made in Nature. "We're taking on chips and bars and all those other so called "better for you" snacks that are merely masquerading as nourishment. Our Supersnacks don't just fill you up, they fuel you up."

As part of the new additions to the healthy snack category, Made in Nature is also launching an entirely new package design.

"The new packaging was a great opportunity to reintroduce Made In Nature to the world in a bold, new way," said Andy Nathan, CMO of Victors & Spoils, who led the design process. "Inspired by their 'Nature Unleashed' brand positioning, the packaging design is strong and vibrant, highlighting the beauty of their unadulterated product. And because they're so grounded and authentic, we were able to  juxtapose that with a very cheeky tone in a category that sometimes takes itself a little too seriously."

The new snacks include:

  • Organic FiggyPops ($10.99 for 16 oz., $4.99 for 4.2 oz.)
  • Organic Toasted Coconut Chips ($3.99 for 3 oz.)
  • Organic Fruit Fusions ( $5.99 for 5-pack and $1.49 for 1 oz. packets) and Fruit and Nut Fusions ($6.99 for 5-oz. bag)
  • Organic Kale Chips ($5.99 for 2.2 oz.)

Made in Nature products are sold at retailers nationwide.

Planet H20 launching bottled water line

BY Gina Acosta

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A new brand called Planet H2O is rolling out a new line of bottled alkaline water that contains minerals such as calcium, magnesium, potassium and silica that promote good health and growth.

Planet H20 says the water comes from a previously undiscovered freshwater aquifer near Linden, Tenn., and is some of the purest, premium drinking water in the world. The aquifer is also believed to be the deepest sourced artesian water in the USA. The water is slowly filtered through 500-million-year-old rocks and bottled at the source in a newly constructed bottling facility utilizing solar technology, according to Planet H20.

“We have developed a world-class premium, natural artesian water resource,” said Jim Bruner, president of Planet H2O. “Once we received the results from a number of water quality studies showing the level of purity, we then began construction on a state-of-the-art production facility.”

Unlike processed or “dead” water, which is acidic and absent of any mineral content, Planet H2O is “living” alkaline water, containing minerals like calcium, magnesium, potassium and silica.

Because the aquifer is sealed and entirely free of surface contaminants, the water is pure. One of these contaminants, tritium – found in nearly all drinking water today – is notably absent in “tritium-free” Planet H2O.

Following completion of the facility, the water is now prepared for distribution, and Bruner believes Planet H2O will appeal to an emerging demographic in the food and beverage industry.

“We’re targeting the health-conscious consumer, providing great-tasting and pure alkaline water with minerals that are the cornerstone of a healthier lifestyle,” Bruner said.

Planet H2O bottled water will hit retail shelves in mid-July.
