Bazooka gets gummy with latest confection

NEW YORK — Bazooka Candy Brands is making its way into the gummy category. The Juicy Drop brand will expand to include Juicy Drop Gummies, which combines sour gummies with sour gel.
The new gummies include such flavors as Knock-Out Punch, Blue Rebel, Apple Attack and Watermelon Blast. Consumer can expect to see the confection in stores in January 2015, with a suggested retail price of $1.60 to $2.20.
Juicy Drop continues to be a top-seller for the brand, ranking No. 2 in front end non-chocolate sales, according to Bazooka. The company hopes its gummy innovation will prove just as successful as the brand's Juicy Drop Taffy, which launched in 2012.
“Just like we did with Juicy Drop Taffy, we are looking to revolutionize an already popular segment with Juicy Drop Gummies. We knew by marrying gummies with the signature sour gel of Juicy Drop, we’d create yet another product our consumers would absolutely love," said Anthony Trani, VP of marketing for Bazooka Candy Brands. "And based on the consumer feedback we’ve received so far, it has been an absolute hit.”
Ocean Spray expands to new category

LAKEVILLE-MIDDLEBORO, Mass. — Ocean Spray is known for its line of juices, but the brand will make a leap to the water aisle with the introduction of PACt cranberry extract water. The new beverage will take advantage of proanthocyanidins — elements found within cranberries — to help purify the body, according to the brand.
“Although the marketplace is filled with beverage options that try to meet the needs of consumers struggling to get enough water into their daily routine, let’s face it, there isn’t one currently that does that in a meaningful way with truly functional benefits,” said Ken Romanzi, COO of global brands at Ocean Spray. “With the Launch of PACt cranberry extract water, we’ve created an even better water that harnesses the unique power of the cranberry through a breakthrough cranberry extract innovation, 10 years in the making. PACt water contains the cleansing and purifying benefits of the cranberry without all the sugar and calories.”
PACt water can be found at major retailers in California and Nevada, as well as online. The beverage can be purchased nationwide beginning in 2015. Consumers can choose from four varieties: Cranberry Pomegranate, Cranberry Raspberry, Cranberry Blood Orange and Cranberry Mango-Passion Fruit.
PharmaSmart kiosks recommended to practitioners by hypertension experts
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — National leaders in hypertension have acknowledged PharmaSmart as the only blood pressure kiosk solution that can be “recommended by physicians” for patient monitoring, the company announced Thursday. The scientific peer-reviewed statement, published this month in the Journal of the American Society of Hypertension, is an evidence-based summary of the issues surrounding public-use blood pressure kiosk accuracy.
"There are two major issues concerning many of the currently available kiosks," noted lead researcher Bruce Alpert, associated with the division of Pediatric Cardiology, University of Tennessee Health Science Center. "First, many appear to lack proper validation testing required to ensure accuracy. Second, the BP cuff incorporated into most devices is too small for about 50% of the U.S. adult populations, and an even higher percentage of hypertensive U.S. adults. Concerned physicians and scientists are working with the FDA to correct the issues," he wrote. "Fortunately, there is one currently available kiosk that has successfully addressed both points and can be recommended by physicians for their patients and for purchase to be placed in public sites."
“Neighborhood pharmacy and pharamcists' are playing an increasingly important role in the delivery of primary care services, and specifically in the prevention and management of certain chronic diseases," said Warren Jeffery, Rexall COO. "Rexall has deployed PharmaSmart’s Blood Pressure management program into the majority of our stores, which has enabled access for our pharmacists to patient blood pressure results and to better manage patient care.”
“PharmaSmart and Bartell Drugs have teamed up to drive collaborative care projects with prominent physician networks throughout Greater Seattle," said Billy Chow, director pharmacy services and clinical programs for Bartell Drugs. "These projects would not be possible without PharmaSmart’s strong clinical evidence and industry leading health IT platform.”
