Bayer HealthCare, Nick Jonas launch ‘Simple Inspirations’ contest
TARRYTOWN, N.Y. — In an effort to motivate and support newly diagnosed diabetes patients, Bayer HealthCare has enlisted spokesman Nick Jonas for its latest contest.
Bayer’s "Simple Inspirations" contest invites entrants to submit a 140-word piece — either lyrics, a poem or short essay — with an optional accompanying image that details inspirational thoughts they would share with someone recently diagnosed with diabetes. The contest, open to people with diabetes ages 13 years and older, will run until Oct. 3. Twelve runners up will receive a 2012 calendar featuring the inspirational thoughts and images from the winner and runner-up entries. The top inspirational thoughts and World Diabetes Day video will be posted on NicksSimpleWins.com. The grand prize winner will have the opportunity to meet Jonas at the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s Los Angeles Walk to Cure Diabetes. , Bayer said.
Jonas, who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at 13 years old, said, "Through my work with Bayer, I am continually moved by the feedback I get from people who tell me that I’ve inspired them because of my diabetes. In turn, I am just as motivated by their diabetes stories. It’s important to me to give back to others and support the diabetic community with opportunities to learn about diabetes and how to live a full life in spite of it. Through this Simple Inspirations contest, Bayer and I invite people already living with diabetes to use creative expression to help motivate newly diagnosed persons to manage their diabetes properly."

Stop & Shop, Unilever donate $150K to Feeding America
QUINCY, Mass. — Stop & Shop has teamed up with Unilever to support the hunger relief efforts of Feeding America and its local member food banks.
The companies said that they are donating $150,000 to the organization, which will provide more than 1 million meals to families in need.
As part of the donation, Stop & Shop also is hosting Popsicle Parties and Stuff-A-Truck events. Through its Popsicle Parties, Stop & Shop will offer each customer a free Popsicle pop for every $1 they donate; while its Stuff-A-Truck events, which are held at various stores through the fall, invites customers to deliver canned and nonperishable food items to local food bank trucks. "Stop & Shop is always exploring new ways to support the communities we serve," said Suzi Robinson, manager of public and community relations for Stop & Shop’s New England division. "This fall, through our partnership with Unilever, we’ve identified several ways customers can join us in our effort to fight childhood hunger."
Pfizer Consumer expands Centrum franchise across several niche categories
MADISON, N.J. — Pfizer Consumer Healthcare on Thursday announced the launch of Centrum Specialist, a line of enhanced multivitamins aimed at specific health priorities, including prenatal, vision, energy and heart health.
Pfizer also launched line of single-ingredient supplements under a new ProNutrients brand that includes omega-3, probiotic and fruit & veggie. "Many people are considering adding or already have added supplements like omega-3 or probiotics to their diet," stated Tiffany McLaud, U.S. franchise lead for dietary supplements at Pfizer Consumer Healthcare. "But we have heard from consumers that choosing the right multivitamin and supplement can be confusing," he noted. "Now with ProNutrients, Americans can feel confident about their supplement choices, and when taken with a multivitamin … will get key nutrients for health and wellness."
