Assured Pharmacy’s same-store sales increase
FRISCO, Texas — Assured Pharmacy on Wednesday reported that its same-store sales during the month of December rose more than 12% from the year-ago period.
The specialty pharmacy operator said that same-store sales totaled $1.5 million (or $70,464 per business day), compared with $1.3 million ($62,714 per business day) in December 2009, a 12.4% increase.
The company also announced that it reached the 10,000 prescriptions filled milestone for the first time during the month.
"As these sales figures reflect, we remain on track for increased sales and market share growth, improved earnings at the store level and stronger cash flow," said Robert DelVecchio, Assured Pharmacy CEO.
MedPro Rx expands Web portal
RALEIGH, N.C. — Specialty pharmacy services provider MedPro Rx announced that it has expanded its Web portal.
The portal, which can be accessed on the company’s website, provides patients, physicians, nurses and case managers with the ability to access targeted content to review medical records and clinical follow-up, drug dispensing/refill and shipping history. The portal also can be used as a tool to communicate with the clinical staff at MedPro Rx and utilizes a secure, password-protected customer log-in to allow for privacy of information and ease of use for clients.

CVS Caremark to utilize ActiveHealth CareEngine for PBM customers
NEW YORK and WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Caremark has inked a three-year agreement with ActiveHealth Management, an independent subsidiary of Aetna, under which CVS Caremark will apply the evidence-based, clinical intelligence of the ActiveHealth CareEngine to healthcare claims for its PBM customers to identify opportunities for improved pharmacy care.
CVS Caremark will apply the CareEngine to more than 800,000 members beginning in April, with additional membership to be added as CVS Caremark consults with its PBM clients.
"The ActiveHealth CareEngine offers evidence-based information that can be used to improve the health care of our members and enables us to take our programs to the next level by seamlessly incorporating medical data," stated Troyen Brennan, EVP and chief medical officer of CVS Caremark. "This agreement will enhance our existing programs to identify issues related to gaps in care, potential drug-to-drug interactions and duplicative care — information that is important to bring to the attention of the member’s physician."
As physicians, the founders and management team of ActiveHealth understand that given the frequency and amount of emerging clinical data, it is challenging for physicians to stay current on every issue that affects their patients. As a result, they created the CareEngine System to address that challenge. Today, ActiveHealth’s team of physicians, pharmacists and registered nurses constantly review the latest clinical evidence and guidelines and build them into the CareEngine System.
